The day before the final episode, which would have featured a girl committing a violent murder, a similar murder took place in real life (16-year-old girl murdered her father with an axe in Kyoto). The episode was cancelled and stock footage was played for 30 minutes in its place, featuring a boat. The boat, alongside a comment on an imageboard calling it a "nice boat", became a meme in Japan after the incident. Due to NSMBW releasing in 2009, it would have been in development at the time and it stands to reason that the developers could have been referencing the meme.
