📅 Luonnon monimuotoisuuden päivänä 22.5. keskustellaan Suomen luonnon nopeista muutoksista, pohditaan luonnon muutoksia seuraavien indikaattorien ja seurantamenetelmien riittävyyttä sekä annetaan nuorille mahdollisuus haastatella eri alojen edustajia. Tervetuloa mukaan! Lisätietoja alla 👇
In today's REC Seminar, postdoc Joris Wiethase presented his talk titled "From drivers to gap-filling: modeling intraspecific trait variation with HMSC." Joris is a recent addition to the group of @annaliisalaine.bsky.social and the REC Team! 🥳
Modern modeling suggests: Achieving ‘good ecological status´ in the Finnish inner Archipelago Sea would require nutrient loads in the catchment area to be halved. Read more 👉 www.helsinki.fi/en/news/math... #EnvStatgroup
In today’s REC Seminar, postdoc Flávia Nitta Fernandes presented her plans to study genetic diversity and genetic load in the Glanville fritillary metapopulation. She is a new addition to @marjosaastamoinen.bsky.social’s group, and we’re pleased to have her! Welcome! 😊
Happy Easter from the Research Centre for Ecological Change! 🐣🌱🐇🌸 Spring is finally arriving here in Finland, and the landscape is slowly coming back to life.
Today we had a full house as guest speaker Jussi Mäkinen from the Finnish Environment Institute (SYKE) discussed the use of new data streams for detecting global change. Thank you, Jussi, for taking the time to visit us! #RECSeminar
🗨️ Today at the REC Seminar, postdoc Diego Rondon from the EnvStat group gave us an introduction to the Applications of #SpatialStatistics to Ecological data. Thank you for an excellent talk!
Last week, the EnvStat group got to celebrate the successful defence of Karel Kaurila's PhD thesis. 🎉
Congratulations to Karel and his supervisor Jarno Vanhatalo! Many thanks to Richard Wilkinson for traveling from the UK to serve as the opponent.
In this week's REC seminar, postdoctoral researcher Andréa Davrinche shared her work on "Disturbance history effects on the diversity-function relationship of plant communities." 🌲 🌳 🌱
This week's REC coffee was extra special as we celebrated another coworker starting their parental leave and a new exciting chapter. We wish you all the best during this special time — and look forward to welcoming you back! 🧡 🎈
Yesterday at the REC Seminar, Professor @marjosaastamoinen.bsky.social offered her perspective on building a career in research — a valuable session for our early career scientists! 😊💫
Greetings from the Ocean Sciences Meeting in Glasgow, Scotland! Our postdoc sammi97lai.bsky.social presented her work showing that the biodiversity-ecosystem functioning relationships in the #BalticSea are strongly context dependent, varying across biodiversity facets and tropic levels. 🌊 #plankton
🦋 This week in the REC Seminar, doctoral researcher Lola Fernández Multigner introduced us to the "Genetic Consequences of Range Dynamics in Finnish Butterflies". Thank you Lola!
A throwback to the REC Seminar a couple of weeks ago 📸—coordinator and science communicator Pinja Kettunen sharing her best tips for making scientific presentations more visually effective.
Last week, postdoc Tanel Vahter visited Professors Normand and Svenning at Aarhus University to discuss methods and future collaboration between Aarhus, Helsinki & Tartu on historical land-use legacies. He also presented results from his Marie Curie Fellowship on long-term soil legacies in Estonia.
