Android makes cloud backups complicated.

So I had to spend today creating mock data to test backup sizes.

Android cloud backups have a 20mb per app limit.
So far that's not been an issue for @bearly.fit.

And over time I'll also add more options to do things like
- Start session
- Scan barcode
- Launch a website / another app
etc

Let me know what you think!

I figured not everyone wants every button in this menu so instead of making it fixed I've made it fully customizable!

Allowing someone to
- add new buttons,
- remove a button
- reorder buttons

Later this will become a global menu allowing someone to access it anywhere in the app.

Bearly Fit - Dev Log - 03.10.2025

I have mostly been improving the quick menu!

The quick menu is accessed through the home screen, it gives you quick access to add different types of logs.

A Teddy bear is just there to listen to your troubles and be a warm supportive hug at night.

I thought that was the perfect analogy for a health and fitness app.
and so - the bear was born!

I hope you enjoyed this little story

So I started thinking of ways to make it more friendly and accessible.

Then it occurred to me - The Teddy Bear
- They have a gender / religion / political party
- They come in all shapes and sizes
- They don't judge you
- They're really difficult to project on to

Bearly Fit reflected my journey and I nailed the "not taking itself too seriously" part

But a lot of fitness apps use Bears, Tigers, Leopards, Wolves.

They were all what I would consider hyper masculine, if you weren't HUGE and STRONG and ANGRY then why are you even using our app?

People always ask me "Why the Teddy Bear"

When I built Bearly Fit I had a few core problems I wanted to solve.

1. Control of my data
2. Completely offline
3. To log exercise/nutrition/body in one app
4. An app that wouldn't shame me and doesn't take itself seriously

I feel like £3k alone is like 3 years at a decent gym and classes.

I never understood the point of Pelotons

Investors occasionally approach me about @bearly.fit

And each time I've rejected it.

You can build something fast if you just throw money at it.
But building something amazing - takes time.

The tech world has enjoyed easy and cheap investment for many years.

Really happy with how this is turning out, I've tested with several years of data and it's smooth and responsive making it really easy to analyse your progress at a glance.

Next I need to work on exporting life logs in both CSV and JSON format!

Let me know what you think :)

Today on Bearly Fit!

I have been working hard on reports for Life Logs!

For a day, week, month / year you can

- Compare your weight, mass etc
- See injuries easily
- Get charts for each measurement
- See all your logs, grouped by month

Each category is now split in to
- Basics
- Body impact
- Charts
- Logs

Allowing you to get a snapshot of a period time for exercise, nutrition, measurements or injuries.

From a single day to an entire year.

This will all go into version 1.4 coming soon!
Thanks for reading!

Each section was a big long list before which didn't really give much room for improvements or expansion like charts and comparison tables.

I was adding the Life logs to this area and decided whilst I was here I should make some improvements!

I wanted to take a slightly different approach to these posts.

So I'll start sharing more detailed stats, give better insight into the bigger "building in public" picture and possibly do a write up which goes into even more detail.

I decided to apply to Apple for an app nomination.

Not everyone knows why I chose the cute bear, so if you're interested.

That technically counts, right?
