This shit is so busted...

We also ended up in this stupid naming scheme because boomers didn’t think the next generation was worth a shit and couldn’t be bothered to come up with something: Hence “Generation X”. Then came y,z,etc…
I’d prefer it if we just ditched the whole generational naming thing altogether. It was useful for a time but it’s really only become another mechanism of division and otherism by society at this point.
While I think a significant portion of the AI discussion is drastically over-hyped nonsense, I do find it somewhat amusing how people complain about their shitty jobs...while simultaneously complaining that AI is going to take their shitty jobs.
It doesn't matter one goddamn bit if you have the most awesomest agileanscrumban process on the planet if you end up just throwing all that shit out the window the moment your project starts going sideways...
Having spent a large part of my early career in Java-land, I can definitely see this...and I think it's one of several reasons I find myself not all that interested in Typescript. Javascript is far from perfect, but it has always felt immensely more productive to me compared to alternatives.
I sometimes think I may be the only Javascript dev that couldn't give a rat's ass about Typescript...
Modern social media of the past decade or so has basically just been: "Old school discussion forums, but with everyone having flamewars with everyone else non-stop all the time about everything"
Also tired of other folks wanting me to have political discourse when all I want is some tech/nerd shit in my life. If I want politics I can find that elsewhere. It doesn’t have to be in ALL of the things I do online.
I’m looking for people with like minded interests, just like in meat space. social interaction has always been an echo chamber in some form. Insisting on it not being that is ignoring reality.
The migration to BlueSky has been fascinating. Sort of feels like a massive fake-out by users:
1) Post-election usage of X falls off a cliff.
2) Bots/clout-chasers/spammers/etc. move to Threads (because that's where the users seem to be).
3) Everyone says "psyche!" and moves to BlueSky.
I'm kind of in the same boat. Probably should do some sort of reasonable assessment of my data storage requirements so I don't get myself into a "more bytes!" death spiral like I always do when I'm looking at this stuff...
I saw a post I've since lost track of refer to BlueSky users as "skywalkers" and...I kinda like that...
The starter pack thing is cool. Great way for new folks to get up and running here…but I’m still not sure how I plan to use this thing.
I tend to be more of a passive observer these days so may not be a lot of posts from me at the start.
