IS IT? (I don't know what that is!)

it’s not for ME but it’s not BORING
a (Japanese?) car i have never seen before
i'm not much of a car guy but i've been reflecting about how that is partially because so many cars are UGLY and BORING
walking the dog tonight i'm monologuing to myself as I walk down the street looking at all the parked cars: "uhg, d'ya see? boring! boring!! boring! BORING! ... oop"
these very nice people have maybe overdone it on who qualifies as "star talent" but I am very flattered and excited to be visiting Oslo Norway this June!
my neighbors have now started sending me articles about AI coding, in case you're wondering how the AI story is traveling through the normal population
(yes i had already called 911 and me and another neighbor had already gone up to the door of this house and the house next door to make sure everyone was getting out)
neighbor who has been awaiting trial for cooking meth and who has in the meantime been cutting down random neighborhood trees to cook more meth kept in fact cooking meth while we waited months for the city or police to do anything about the guy cooking meth (they did not)
anyway no one is hurt
we're out here wide eyed. we're out here sad sometimes. we're out here finding the thing we're good at but sometimes doing it badly anyway. we're out here noticing. we're out here taking it day by day. we're out here never really in control, in the end
we're out here minning. we're out here middling. we're out here napping. we're out here wondering and not being sure. we're out here being distracted & forgiving outselves for it. we're out here hugging. we're out here holding hands. we're out here going to bed a little early tonight.
every single high school boy that plays a sport has a haircut that looks like they stick their finger in a socket and then apply a lot of product
<squints> okay so what if everything is just getting too complicated
Yes to all of this. Also: I'm delighted by the idea of collapsing these various fields of humanity into one dimension.
"How much art did you do today honey?" "ohhhh today... today was hard, to be honest. I only did .2 art today. But I did manage .7 business, so, that helped a little."
The sad thing is his experience isn't invalid and I'd actually love to make QLab be less surprising to people who expect it to be a DAW (since that is a lot of people!) — I think there is plenty of interesting work we can do here, given time. a bummer to see how online spaces bring this out of us
also unsettling: stumbled across a Facebook fight about QLab today (someone was really angry that they think QLab is really badly designed, other people didn't think they were being fair, etc)
it’s okay to be nice to each other online, y'know? we're all doing our best
woke up very unsettled; been working all these years without a license and now it might all come crashing down 😫
had an executive function dream last night where i realized i needed to pass the programmer licensing exam and when i went in to do it i couldn't get past the first question... just increasingly tied up in knots & confusion while everyone else around me calmly proceeded
"the primary purpose of the workspace status line is for posting on bluesky"
Lumping all of AI into one politically untouchable bucket is an unrealistic and sort of achingly bad move. There is no conceivable future technological infrastructure that does not involve high volume statistics.
But e.g.: are we building a future soiled by cars or are we building mass transit?
Tahoe is no doubt a UI disaster. But I'd still take a native Tahoe app over any Electron app that I have ever encountered. Electron apps are terrible.
My company has been building all native Mac apps for 20 years 🤷♂️
now that claude code exists no one is allowed to make any new Electron apps ever again
even if the code is sh-*t it'll still be better than an Electron app
Stars Hollow coded
ha, yes, this is me!
if any local news outlet is looking for a story ( @thebaltimorebanner.com ?) the therapist pipeline for the entire state of Maryland is currently backlogged for MONTHS behind a single woman who processes licenses and has what I can only describe as a very loose relationship to "doing her job"
thanks! i do some photography in the time between doing other things. for example, I take most of the show photos for voxel.org/events/
p.s. we're holding auditions this month
i took a break from work yesterday to get my head out of computers and AI.
I'm co-directing a production of Eurydice early next year, and I wanted to explore photos for that show. My co-director Tessara stepped in as a temporary model, but now I want to actually use some of these...
Just started to understand this today and it’s crazy!!
I think this captures something fundamental about what is happening in the world of "organizing electrons to make them useful"
people are just walking around in the world, not understanding that they can make software now.
like, the general public just doesn't get it yet.
