I mean, the children's hospital in Pittsburgh resisted pressure and won pretty promptly. All the hospitals who are folding is basically doing so in order to not be the sticking-up nail. Someone like @khadijah.bsky.social , who was on the subpoena case, probably knows and can explain better than I.
It isn’t an emergency for families who can access private care and also physically get to private care, and as long as doctors in private care have enough lawyers to protect their freedom. But it’s not like people can just get prescriptions from their GP.
The changes in the Medicare/medicaid guidelines that HHS announced mean there is a very real possibility that the more than half of patients who are on public insurance will be cut off.
There is now no surgery anywhere in CA. All the research that was happening at CHLA - 12-year studies - has ended as the doctors who were fired frantically try to see as many patients as they can, and they have many, many patients whose care has just stopped.
The institutions you are imagining essentially do not exist. There were 3000 patients at CHLA. The private care system took a sliver of them. Most of those are with docs at hospitals that haven’t yet pulled the plug only because they haven’t been threatened and are hoping they don’t get noticed.
One place you can help: this new non-profit is launching to help kids without access to insurance (or on insurance that isn't paying out) get GAC in California. They're working with VERY trusted providers who used to work at CHLA. It's all a scramble right now, $ helps.
