I think 1 is absolutely true. It also means it a bit of a chicken-and-egg scenario of hitting critical mass. What I haven't figured out is how does a church begin to get critical mass, even in just a single age range? With attendance patterns being as they are, seems like you need even more kids

I've been to literally one church growth thing where a presenter had a positive account of a church that grew by reaching retirees moving into the community. We're growing by reaching college students and young adults, most of who do not have kids.

The Church should regulate some relational forms. For example, prohibiting clergy from romantic and/or sexual relationships with people under their pastoral care. At the same time, we should form clergy to maintain appropriate boundaries (which is perhaps a secularized form of chastity?)
"Churches must decide whether to focus primarily on regulating relational forms or to take on the more difficult yet more effective work of forming people capable of sustaining ethical, life-giving relationships." To which I say: why not both?

One wonders what an entire sanctification stan, like John Wesley, would make of that doctrine in a future where we can know SO MUCH about the source and effects of things we buy, do, use, and consume. No ethical consumption in a sin-and-death-tainted web of life
total depravity is not only so back, it's more total and increasing depraved!
Oh yeah. More than once when I've spoken with someone about making confession as they near the end of their life, they have said, "What would I have to confess?" Uh... your sins. We all sin. I sin. You sin. I would want to confess before I stand before the great judgment seat of Christ
I think I say some combination of sin, death, evil, Satan. The world as it is. The world captive to sin and death and their cruel logics. Even still, I think people can hear what they want sometimes.
At least they claim to want it! In the Holy Cow survey done prior to my hire, this parish basically said "We don't do a good job of formation and... we do not care!" I think that's changing. I wondering if asynchronous methods, e.g., videos/podcasts isn't a way forward?
