I see this as the innocence of children having no rights, perhaps being used as slave labor, and in extreme cases, even horrific abuse.

So why after 155 years do so many readers still believe Jasper to “THE WICKED MAN” and not “the living waters”? Because Charles Dickens’s genius for hiding clues in plain sight while incorporating his literary shell-game continues to pull the wool over our eyes.
Lighthouses shine red lights in warning to prevent tragedy, not cause it. And Dickens writes the verb “warn” four times in chapter 2. He even underlines the importance of “warning” in his keynotes. (Typed image of his handwritten notes below taken from the David Paroissien edition.)
A closeup of [Sir] Luke Fildes’s illustration of John Jasper’s Gatehouse, which Dickens refers to as a “Lighthouse” three times in his unfinished masterpiece, shows a cross in the window. Dickens refers to Jasper as “the living waters” where the “tide of life” stems from. (See chapter 12.)
🤣
That being said, my song du jour goes out to a man who didn’t quite live up to his name: Charles Peace.

What else could be the song of the day?

Please allow my song of the day to go out to Isabella Bird 🙂

My wife is Hispanic and people will often try to talk to her in Spanish, but she was born in Washington D.C. and doesn’t speak a word. (I speak more Espanol than she, and I only had one Spanish class freshman year of high school, lol.)
You knew my song was coming sooner or later, Emory. Cheers to Charles Blondin! 🙂

Help—I feel like I’m trapped in a bad reality tv game show in which one misstep by the
Host can lead to full-scale thermonuclear war!
My song of the day goes out to Mary Kingsley—‘Bungle in the Jungle.’ 🙂

Since you believe in magic, for my next trick, I shall make another tune appear before your very ears! 🎩🎶🙂

Santa closes out the Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade:::
So my song today goes out to the magic lantern and Pepper’s Ghost audiences of ole…

Never! (Stomachs can’t tell time.) 🙂
I’m going with Audrey Hepburn’s ‘La Vie en Rose’, a cappella, in Billy Wilder’s ‘Sabrina.’

My favorite director, Billy Wilder (who directed her twice), once said of Audrey Hepburn:
“God kissed her on the cheek, and there she was.”
Given this, my song of the day goes out to Sir Francis Galton…

My quote above: “That’s not a beer, it’s a swimming pool” is much funnier if you picture Walter Matthau saying it (and perhaps throwing in a “For Christ sakes” along with it). Nevertheless, Nik, cheers!
Well played, Tina! Cheers! 🍺
I wonder if President Trump is going to use his “A whole civilization will die tonight” speech for the Nobel Peace Prize next year. 🙄
Things I’d rather not have on my conscience:
-never returning that library book
-keeping the extra change I received from a new cashier
-annihilating an entire civilization
“I have gone out too far.”
-Ernest Hemingway, The Old Man and the Sea
It’s a good time in our lives to
do a “friend check” and see which friends would rather erase a civilization in order to save a few extra bucks at the gas pump. (Choose wisely.)
When it comes to news, I’ve come to realize over the years that the truth in the headlines usually lies somewhere in the middle.
How can my song of the day go out to anyone else but Arthur Orton?

That’s not a beer, it’s a swimming pool. 😉
❤️
No doubt!
