Well we will likely have the opportunity to see what East Pye actually do.

I think you are being too generous to the solar farm biodiversity claims. They will be focussed on energy output with an industrial mindset. It a toss up whether poorly managed farming or poorly managed solar is worse for biodiversity.

Record your Zakinthos observations at I ionianbutterflyconservation.org which now covers all the Ionian islands

Thanks to other kind folk on today's @norfolknats.bsky.social walk at Ashwellthorpe Wood, here's Encoelia furfuracea (Spring Hazelcup) and Byssomerulius corium (Netted Crust) on Hazel, and witches broom galls on Hornbeam likely caused by Taphrina carpini. Bit cool for many insects sadly.

A more reasonable direct comparison would be with traditional farms managed for biodiversity. Do you really think commercial solar farms will be managed for biodiversity?

As the report makes clear the improvement is over the abysmal biodiversity of our farmland. Sprayed into submission. Gain comes IF the solar farms are managed for biodiversity which on current form is unlikely unless mandated. Otherwise we will see routine spraying between panels.

It was just announced on his facebookpage that Tristan Lafranchis has passed away 😞
A big loss for amateur lepidopterists in Europe, his accessible #butterfly ID-books have opened a world to a lot of us. As you can see, mine are heavily used. His legacy will surely live on. πŸ¦‹

The Corfu Butterfly Survey is just 246 butterfly sightings short of having recorded 100,000 butterflies. We can reach this goal before the end of the year if you record any sightings of butterflies from Corfu on our website: corfubutterflyconservation.org, before 31st December 2024.
