Jesse Wilson (@jessewilson@cosocial.ca) FYI, I’ve moved from @jessewilson@mastodon.social

I did a similar migration on Mastodon when cosocial.ca came online.

That process was lossy and slow. For example, old posts don’t transfer over in Mastodon migrations.

(Both are better than big social media!)

AT Backup – One-click backup for Bluesky One-click backup for Bluesky

Northsky’s migration guide recommended I back up first, and so I used AT Backup.

MacOS is grumpy about running apps from ‘Unknown Developers’. I had to allowlist this app in settings.

The app worked great. Being able to download all my stuff is fantastic!

that's just evidence of Google’s existing market power

ask your friends if they ever get Mac Apps from outside the Mac App Store?

I dislike this argument because it's about the specifics of the policy. My problem is that such policies can be imposed at all.

TrustedTime API: Introducing a reliable approach to time keeping for your apps The Trusted Time API in Google Play Services offers developers a reliable, accurate time source independent of device settings to ensure consistency.

I'm guessing TrustedTime. Play Services all the way down.

In high school I loved this app called Paint Shop Pro. It had a 30-day free trial.

Or a 3680 day trial:

Install Paint Shop Pro

No, no, and still no. Installing an app on an Android device you've purchased and fully own is not "sideloading". It's just... using your device. Nothing more. Let's not pretend even for a second that "sideloading" is a normal term to describe this.
