I saw too many from my generation go overseas and die in a war that should never have started to go along with another one.

This illegal, unnecessary attack won’t make us safer or guarantee a democratically elected government in Venezuela. It will only cost lives.

I've said it before. I'll say it again: grown-ups shouldn't bully kids. Happy #Pride, Grand Rapids!

Please remember that today isn't just an excuse to grill, find bargains and mark the start of Summer.

Today, we remember those who paid the ultimate sacrifice to our nation. Remember them today. Honor their sacrifice every day. #MemorialDay

Enough is enough. Adults should protect healthcare, not bully kids.

2.7 million Michiganders are worried about losing healthcare, but MI House Republicans decided the best thing to do yesterday was pick on trans kids...again.

Enough is enough. Adults shouldn't bully kids. My floor speech here: youtu.be/Jx61IPkp-x8

Reasons why we should elect more young parents:

1. We fully understand how the childcare & housing shortages are holding people back.

2. We get toddlers to bed, so we’re at peak negotiating abilities.

“Let my Mama vote” was heard loud and clear this morning while Sam and I joined @notpoliticians.bsky.social to rally against the SAVE Act.

We gave women the right to vote and we ended poll taxes. The SAVE Act and its Michigan equivalent would undo so much of this, but we won’t let it happen!

Dr. King's was right to say the "arc of the moral universe is long, but it bends towards justice." Just don't forget we need to do the bending.

Walls of injustice have been put up countless times, but they've been overcome because good people persisted. Make sure you do too.

Benjamin Franklin told us we have a republic "if we can keep it." Do not let a handful of far-right politicians and extremists attack our freedom to vote and sabotage election results so only a wealthy few are heard.

Honor the heroism on January 6th, 2021 and be one now.

Those same extremists are using disinformation to pass bills to sabotage elections, control their outcomes, criminalize voting officials & give partisan poll watchers the ability to harass & intimidate voters.

Just like then, we need heroes of all kinds to stand up.

Then and today, we saw what Americans across every race, place, party and background want come true: the voters deciding who wins.

While the will of the voters has prevailed both times, elections are just as vulnerable to sabotage - if not more.

Four years ago, MAGA extremists tried to sabotage an election through insurrection. Thankfully, heroes of all kinds stopped them.

From Capitol police who stood in peril to protect others, to Senate staff who protected ballot boxes, heroes from all walks of life saved the day. 🧵

“When the song of the angels is stilled,
when the star in the sky is gone,
when the kings and princes are home,
when the shepherds are back with their flocks,
the work of Christmas begins.” - Howard Thurman.

May that work begin again. Merry Christmas, from our family to yours!

Thanks to all who joined tonight's swearing-in. Looking forward to serving Greater Grand Rapids with Representatives Glanville, Fitzgerald, Grant & Skaggs.

In the face of victory, defeat, unfinished work & renewed fears, let us keep going. The world only spins forward. The great work continues.

And that’s a wrap! I had my final Kent County Commission meeting yesterday. It’s been an honor to serve these last six years.

Thank you to the voters for their trust for three terms, my family for their continued support and all I served alongside.

Onward!

Wrapped up my last finance committee meeting this morning. Took the chance to stay after and clean out my desk. While my very last meeting will be in a few days, it was great to revisit so many memories with old papers and manuals.

Any guesses how many copies of the standing rules I had in there?

Turned on “Spidey & His Amazing Friends” for Sam tonight. Listened to the theme song and the singer sounded oddly familiar.

It’s the lead singer of Fall Out Boy. He’s producing songs for cartoons for pre-schoolers.

Millennial parents, let that sink in.

Hey folks! I’m excited to be here.

Those who don’t know me from other platforms, get ready for wonky posts about housing policy, state government, MSU sports and nerd culture.

Oh, and my family. ☺️
