This weekend we joined #CitizenPruners in Bed-Stuy to #prunetrees along Jefferson Avenue. A BIG thank you to Council Member Chi Ossé for joining us! I'm glad we had the opportunity showcase the great work our Citizen Pruners are doing in preserving and protecting NYC's #urbanforest.

#KwanzanCherry or #KanzanCherry are about to start blossoming in NYC! With warming temperatures already underway this week, they should be open soon. ‘Kanzan’ is one cultivar of #JapaneseCherry; other cultivars have lighter pink or white flowers.

#HackberryTrees have raised bumps and/or ridges on the bark, even when young. Viewed from the side, the bumps/ridges have multiple layers. Try some winter tree identification - go outside this weekend and see if you can locate one among the many wonders found in our #urbanforest!

With funding from the #CityParksFoundation #GreenFund, we planted and cared for #trees in Red Hook, Brooklyn - an area prone to flooding. These trees will provide shade and absorb excess stormwater. A BIG thank you for your years of support!

Congratulations to our first cohort of Urban Forest Fellows - Julien, Mariya, and Jose! They helped us expand our programming, resulting in thousands of #stewardedtrees, as they trained 16 Young Urban Forester Interns who helped us care for 399 #trees we planted with our #TreesForNYCHA project.
