trippin rn. I've been going deep into my archives & consolidating stuff, including my photo library to iCloud. To fill in Summer of 2013, I dug up my cute little old burner Android phone from when I lived in Berlin. was pleasantly surprised to see it turn on, despite being sticky from aging plastic.

Six glass bottles of Club-Mate, a German soda made of carbonated Yerba Mate tea, sit on a dining table. The bottle furthest-away from the camera has visible wear lines around it from being recycled.

Britney picked up a bunch of Club-Mate yesterday. It's not the easiest to get in the US. Berlin nostalgia popping off. It brings me so much joy.

I recently learned that Club-Mate is like the anti-Red Bull, they spend 0 on any marketing or promotion whatsoever. That fucking rules.

The American media has fundamentally failed as a pillar of democracy. It probably began when Fox News normalized blatantly lying but regardless the rot of both sideism and sane washing has destroyed US media and our electoral system.

I think this is helping me realize that, unsurprisingly, all I needed to get onboard with electroclash was for it to be goth-coded. Never had a problem w/the sleazy queerness or the cheap gear, it just needed to be presented as aligned with Cabaret Voltaire & Liaisons Dangereuses instead of Peaches.

Former City Council member @mikebonin.bsky.social did a great interview with LA mayoral candidate @raeforla.com on his podcast.

They covered a lot of good stuff including her promise to fire LAPD police chief McDonnell. That’s got my attention!

If you're a non-Jamaican music critic, think twice before you use “riddim” in your writing. Pretty sure I did this once in my callow youth, but never again.

Over a year after the devastating Palisades Fire that destroyed over half of structures in the Palisades and left tens of thousands of individuals displaced, our community still faces a long road to recovery.

I know here in Sawtelle we also have the Sawtelle Japantown Association in addition to the WLANC. I would not be surprised to see that sort of thing happening elsewhere. People just saying "fuck this" and making their own to get in their councilmember's ear.

It's definitely a super bad look to basically defund them in the middle of the ramp-up to the Olympics. But that's probably commenting on a lot of ships that have sailed a long time ago.

They still have a modicum of leverage for their individual PLUM committees. That does matter.

For sure there should be more coverage of what's happening at NC meetings in general, no disagreement with that. It's just that I've seen many people go on the same journey I've been on where they find out about NCs and then realize they basically have no power and are just an outlet for venting.

I’m just going to be shitty for a second here and ask, how much does this functionally matter at this point? The NCs have already been functionally stripped of having any capacities beyond soliciting sentiment and making recommendations. It’s a shell of what it was created to do in the 90s.

Kissing Luck Goodbye, by ADULT. 10 track album

New ADULT. record has grabbed me hard. I dunno if years of listening to stuff like Nitzer Ebb has worn me down into liking the punk industrial aesthetic or if I just liked it to begin with, but either way I’m all the way on board now.

The backlash to this is understandable but the value prop of what they’re pitching as it distinguishes from Starter Packs is real. The massively negatively polarized underinformed backlash is so annoying, even if I’m not down with it myself either.
