On December 2-3, Dr. Susan Bueno and Dr. Hernán Peñaloza visited the @lji.org La Jolla Institute for Immunology in San Diego to advance studies on T cell-mediated immune responses in infections and vaccination.

Dr. Alexis Kalergis, director of the IMII and UC academic, participated in the II Regional WHO/PAHO/MPP Meeting on mRNA Vaccine R&D held in Brasília. He addressed the challenges involved in strengthening innovation, scientific collaboration, and technology transfer.
Researchers from the IMII are participating in a phase 3 study accepted in @natcomms.nature.com, which evaluated two quadrivalent vaccines against influenza viruses and compared humoral and cellular responses, showing differences in antibodies and T cells.

On October 20, Catalina Andrade, from Dr. Alexis Kalergis’s Biomedical Molecular Immunology Laboratory, successfully defended her doctoral thesis “Immunomodulation against respiratory viruses is key to preventing neurological sequelae,” receiving the highest grade.
The IMII concluded the activities of the PME project “Food and Immunity Space” with a visit from students of the Instituto de Humanidades Luis Campino.
Guided by Dr. Hernán Peñaloza and his team, the students explored how food influences the immune system.
During August and September, the IMII carried out activities in Temuco and Santiago to bring the science of nutrition and immunity closer to high school students.
Talks, workshops, and experiments showed how nutrition can strengthen the immune system and inspire future scientific careers.
On October 9th, the IMII and the HPI organized the seminar 'New Era in Vaccines' in Athens. Drs. Alexis Kalergis, Susan Bueno, Pablo González, Hernán Peñaloza, and Mario Calvo discussed advances in vaccines and clinical trials, fostering Chile-Greece cooperation.
From October 1 to 3, the IMII held the SIS 2025: 'Communicating Immunology' at the UC, with more than 1,500 participants. The event addressed vaccines, immunotherapy, and scientific communication, establishing itself as a key player in biomedical research.
