I read Hamnet with only school experience of Shakespeare (15+ years ago) and you don't need any Shakespeare knowledge. An understanding of Hamlet might help towards the end so you could read that but you'd be better off understanding Tudor/Elizabethan society than reading Shakespeare

Four days into my new job and I've already instigated the creation of a little free library in the office and encouraged several colleagues to download @thestorygraph.com
If I become known as the obsessive reader then that's fine by me ๐ฌ๐
That's a good way to put it, for me 5*s have to haunt me afterwards. My ratings of audiobooks absolutely can't be trusted lol because I used to listen to them while working in a lab so I'd thoroughly enjoy all of them because it made work bearable
Love seeing the app get better every year! ๐
Exactly! But if a book makes me cry that makes it much more likely to get 5 stars, unless it was terrible in other ways
Happy new year everyone, but especially to me who stayed up after everyone else went to bed to finish reading The Everlasting by @alixeharrow.bsky.social
A beautiful story with beautiful artwork ๐คบ๐จ๐พโ๐ซ๐ฎ
Managed to exceed my 2025 reading goal of 30 books, but I sure am stingy with my ratings ๐ Only one 5โญ this year. I always appreciate the @thestorygraph.com wrap-ups

Lost Whamageddon in my own home because my partner put a generic Spotify Christmas playlist on instead of my curated one #isbreakingupanoverreaction
Spotify wrapped screenshot showing my top 5 albums. The albums, in order, are: The Tortured Poets Department by Taylor Swift, The Life Of A Showgirl by Taylor Swift, Fearless (Taylor's Version) by Taylor Swift, reputation by Taylor Swift, and Hamilton OBC recording by Lin-Manuel Miranda
My new year's resolution to listen to more diverse music has, once again, failed. It's not even close.

I'd made it to the sofa and fortunately had finished dinner before the shock realisation that the battle of Trafalgar wasn't a bloody land battle in central London ๐
Followed shortly after by my out loud realisation that Trafalgar Square is named after the battle of Trafalgar, and the battle didn't take place there

Just shouted "spoilers!" when my partner said I had to hurry up and sit down to watch The Rest Is History because Nelson was about to die
My November reading nicely summarised by @thestorygraph.com
Books I read:
Four Seasons in Japan by Nick Bradley
The Ledge by Christian White
Daily Dracula by Bram Stoker
The Book of Days by K. A. Baker
Warehouse Dreams by Theresa Halvorsen
๐๐๐ฌ
Finished listening to The Ledge by Christian White and had to immediately grab a copy from the library because how did I miss the hints for a plot twist that huge?! Going to spend the next few evenings rereading the present day chapters to figure it out ๐๐๐ฌ
I don't know how my work performance will be affected but damn it's like I've doubled the amount of time in my day!
I've always wondered how people could read more than 2-3 books a month but after finishing a book in less than a week I've discovered it's audiobooks and mindless work tasks. The number of books I read is about to skyrocket
๐๐๐ฌ
Four Seasons in Japan by Nick Bradley is such a beautiful book, I loved it! It has frustratingly human characters that are too easy to relate to but what a pleasure it was to journey with them for an in-novel year #booksky
This year I took part in #DailyDracula for the first time and whew, what a ride! A fantastic 6 months of regular reading now over. Such a fun concept, I'd thoroughly recommend for next year #booksky
The carrot cake muffins I made for morning tea at work went down a treat today. Everyone said they were great, but personally I think the cream cheese frosting carried the sponge ๐ #baking
a black and white sonogram of a human baby at 20 weeks. it looks oddly like a dog with two black eyes, a snoot, and a little grin.
a close up of a tan dog with a black snoot and golden brown eyes. he's so close we can see the whiskers on his lip and the grooves in his nose. he looks above the camera with a slightly bewildered expression. the resemblance to the sonogram truly is uncanny.
A pregnant woman was shocked to realize her sonogram resembled her dog's face. Inรชs Egner went in for her 20-week anatomy scan and left with a photo that looked exactly like her dog, Goulash. She said, "In truth, we do like to jokingly refer to the dog as our son." 14/10 (TT: inesverse)
Today I did a truly awful job of packing my running gear: I took my towel out of my bag (because I wasn't going to spin class so I clearly didn't need it) and I packed my partner's shorts (not the first time I've done this but our waists are similar sizes so it's fine) #running #runningfails
The audiobook cover of The Very Secret Society of Irregular Witches by Sangu Mandanna. A yellow car drives up a road to a big white house surrounded by fields and with a hedge and gate at the forefront
I loved listening to The Very Secret Society Of Irregular Witches โค๏ธ such a heartwarming and low stakes book with engaging and lovable characters (especially the kids!). I did have a niggling idea of the final plot twist but that just made it better! #booksky #books #reading #audiobooks

Loved making this octopus so much I made it 3 times! The tentacles are super fun to see curl as you go back over the chain. All octopi have gone to their new owners & hopefully will be well loved ๐ โค๏ธ Pattern: www.crochet365knittoo.com/crochet-octo... #crochet #yarncraft #craft #octopus #baby #gift
Melbourne's tram system is wild, some 'stations' are just places where the tram stops in the middle of a busy road and you have to hope as you step out you aren't immediately hit by a car
Hey - it's my research group! Have a read of the important science that we do ๐งช ๐
I've spent all this month trying to fix lab equipment that kept coming up with more problems whenever I solved one. It's true that science doesn't get done without lab techs, and now I'm officially counting down to my holiday #science #labtechlife
Found out today that the local intercity cycleway has a solar system model on it ๐ I've seen and heard of these before but something about finding one in the wild unexpectedly has really tickled me. Absolutely love it
A while ago I thought it was a bit silly going on holiday less than a month after moving into a new house. I'm t-36 hours from moving and wish the holiday was sooner
