I have a question, when you listen to "Matty Groves" what name do you hear Sandy sing after "Lord" ? Arnold? Donald? Darnell? Other?

@andrewhickey.500songs.com I just finished listening to it. I'm a pretty big fan of the performers, but I still learned a few things and was delighted that you included brief mentions of The Ink Spots, Johny Otis, Bruce Johnston, and others that tie in with 500 songs past and future
I just finished listening to it. I'm a pretty big fan of the performers, but still learned a few things and was delighted that Andrew included brief mentions of The Ink Spots, Johny Otis, Bruce Johnston, and others that tie into the overall "500 Songs" podcast narrative.
@andrewhickey.500songs.com reminds me of the fact that Pink Floyd came from Pink Anderson and Floyd Council. Are there more examples of this kind of naming?
It's weird the connections that come up in my episodes. Like I'm currently doing music clips, and wanted to find one on YouTube to share here, because Sandy Denny's "What Will I Do With Tomorrow?", recorded with Manfred Mann, was recorded for the soundtrack of soft-porn sex comedy Swedish Fly Girls.
@andrewhickey.500songs.com interesting. I think I had seen the title of that movie mentioned in one of the Sandy Denny CD box sets, but I never knew what type of movie it was
R.I.P. Brian Wilson. I saw him perform once, on the 2020 Cayamo music cruise (festival at sea) with his Large Band. That's where I took this photo.
Jethro Tull, Randy Newman, Steeleye Span, Nick Drake, The Box Tops / Alex Chilton
Just to say @500songspodcast.bsky.social *is* the official account for the podcast (we'll get the domain sorted as soon as I have spoons). It's @elsawilliams.bsky.social who's running it, but for me and with my approval.
Check out Emma’s new single! Fate has never sounded so enticing 💕
Dr. Demento has announced his retirement at age 84 after DJ-ing novelty songs for 55 years. Saturday, May 31, 2025 was the last "regular" Dr. Demento show, although there will be some special "retrospective" shows coming up over the next few months. Streaming audio from his web site.
The Minus 5 are playing near me this week. I have a ticket.
Such as: Elvis practicing karate moves after returning from the Army, and years later Priscilla cheating on Elvis with her karate instructor?
@andrewhickey.500songs.com have you listened to this Gladwell episode before? : www.pushkin.fm/podcasts/rev...
I've been relistening to 500 Songs episodes while making Spotify playlists. In between I've started listening to Malcolm Gladwell's "Revisionist History" podcast. By total coincidence I got to the point where I heard back to back both talking about Elvis Presley's "Are You Lonesome Tonight?"

Makes sense. And it could be a pain especially for longer episodes with many excerpted songs. And a pain to maintain if the links that work this year stop working in the future. But for what it's worth, this is the kind of thing that I was thinking of. Totally understand this not working for you.
The only other thought I have related to that is maybe you could provide links to where people can purchase legal downloads from Apple ITunes Store / Amazon MP3 store / Bandcamp / other. If I recall correctly, Tyler Mahan Coe did something like that on his web page for episodes of C & R.
Oh, another example of something missing from the Spotify platform is The Alberts (“Morse Code Melody” or any of their stuff). At least I can't find it while searching from the U.S.

And the new episode of A History of Rock Music in 500 Songs is now up! Michael Nesmith! The Massed Alberts! The Wheeltappers and Shunters Social Club! Jimmy Shand! Mungo Jerry! It is of course part one of the story of "Who Knows Where The Time Goes?" by Fairport Convention.
Looks like I need to re-listen to the episode after “Si Tu Dois Partir" and add more to my playlist for things mentioned after that in the episode. It was getting late here and I was already past my bedtime.
I couldn't find a few things on Spotify. They don't seem to have the complete Dylan at Newport 1965, only some songs. And they don't have the Giles Giles Fripp stuff.
I spent several hours listening to this, pausing, adding (almost) all songs mentioned to a Spotify playlist. I knew a lot of the story already, but still learned a few things. Very well done.
They are releasing a new Martin album later this month. Martin will be 84 years old and it has been a long time since his last album. Pre-orders at transformmethenintoafish.com
Looking forward to the Fairport Convention episode(s). On a somewhat related note, I just saw Martin and Eliza Carthy perform in California. Set list included Ye Mariners All, and John Barleycorn, ...
