“Feud with the Pope” is BACK as a likely Wikipedia section heading after a 400-year gap.

I am pretty sure a minimum of 40% of academics are neurodiverse, which I think is a factor.

A thing on the Walking Dead that is legit driving me up the wall is that prisons often have industrial incinerators for dealing with waste, and every episode, there is one or more reason that an incinerator used as a massive fire pit seems like it would be very useful.

Watching my kid very confidently say, "I know her!" to the bookstore clerk when she saw my BFFs book on the counter was such a delight.

I saw him speak once, and someone asked if he thought the way he used visual metaphors to make points made his documentaries dishonest or something, and he said, basically, "I don't care about that."

The most bad-ass rebuttal from Tite Kubo, the author of Bleach.

Yeah, like... I want something about American cuteness which seems culturally distinct! I have questions!

Has anyone read anything thoughtful about like ... whimsy discourse? I am starting to see some echoes of the aggressively cute collectibles, etc. of the '90s (Cherished Teddies, Dreamsicles, every other figurine series at Hallmark) or even the Big Eyes style art of the 60s.

Still mad about how I was told my email tone was unacceptable, but nobody would give me an example to explain what I was doing wrong. I finally gave up and just write the same emails with a smile emoji at the end, and nobody has complained again. Smile more. But in typing.

The hypercriticism of tone in email seems to have significantly increased since 2020, too. It is *so* specific to gender/race/ identity/role.

The notion that people aren't allowed to judge you for taking or failing to take moral action is WILD. Like, if you desperately need your little wizard show or whatever, people are allowed to think you're an asshole for it.

I went to a public university in Texas, and they claimed they couldn't prevent people from displaying giant posters of fake mutilated fetuses because free speech, but they CAN apparently just shut down your entire research agenda. Sure sure sure. Totally.

Women and girls have outspent men and boys on pop culture and entertainment for 75 years. Like, this trend started being very visible in the midcentury with pop music and has continued. If you want more $ per audience member, the audience you want is not men.

Meeting a child named Walter is similarly delightful. Basically any being named Walter who isn't an adolescent or adult man feels like a charming anomaly.

I'm already seeing these chatbots deployed with ZERO critical framing or guardrails among tweens/middle school students (ie, not even teens yet). This is SO dangerous.

I don't know, man, I think the zombie apocalypse might be the exact right time for helicopter parenting. Does any single person know where Carl is like, EVER? on the Walking Dead? Like, constantly just losing this child.

Scene from Texas Chainsaw Massacre: The Next Generation where Leatherface is hanging outside a moving car next to an RV

Leatherface checkin' me
But his game is kinda weak
And I know that he cannot approach me
'Cause I'm running too fast, his chainsaw outta gas
I'll escape from his deadly ass

(Don't mind me, I do this)

The Next Generation is still worth a watch for Zellweger & an absolutely unhinged McConaughey
