I think what I did wrong was be a woman with any modicum of power.
Still mad about how I was told my email tone was unacceptable, but nobody would give me an example to explain what I was doing wrong. I finally gave up and just write the same emails with a smile emoji at the end, and nobody has complained again. Smile more. But in typing.
The hypercriticism of tone in email seems to have significantly increased since 2020, too. It is *so* specific to gender/race/ identity/role.
The notion that people aren't allowed to judge you for taking or failing to take moral action is WILD. Like, if you desperately need your little wizard show or whatever, people are allowed to think you're an asshole for it.
