"They think they can achieve happiness if they just leave the earth or leave society or find an immortality potion."

Not to get all spiritual, but this is an excellent description of hell. They're in literal hell.

Text of Cardinal McElroy’s homily at Vigil Mass for Peace - Catholic Standard

Cardinal McElroy: “We entered this war not out of necessity but rather choice…Each of these policy failures is equally a moral failure which under Catholic just war principles renders both the initiation of this war and any continuation of it morally illegitimate.” www.cathstan.org/voices/text-...

Pro-tip for the Swalwell campaign staff now maligning the women accusing their boss of sexual misconduct: it's not worth it. There will be other campaigns and other candidates but there will never be another time that you won't regret behaving this way towards survivors.

A WHOLE CIVILIZATION
WILL DIE TONIGHT
My son needs lunch, and I have to put his backpack together, but a whole civilization will die tonight, so I'm wondering if they've closed their schools.
Like, a snow day, maybe, except instead of snow it's
"keep your children home so if you die, you die together" — instead of "well open back up once the plows have cleared" it's
"we don't know if we'll be here tomorrow, hold your babies tight."
It's just "talk" I'm told, which I've been told before.
"It's how the president makes his deals." But I've never heard anyone talk about other human beings this way, and I'm not certain I can look my son in the eyes if we all agree to stomach it one more time.
A civilization will die tonight, but as I zip up his backpack and kiss him off to school I think: if this is what we call leadership then I'm not entirely sure ours isn't already dead.

You have more in common with the people of Iran than you do with anyone in this administration, any member of the technocracy, anyone who is profiting from this war, or any billionaire. When you see Iranians forming human chains outside key infrastructure sites, you should feel a sense of kinship.

Pope Leo opens Holy Week with plea for peace: No one can use Jesus to 'justify war' In his Palm Sunday homily, Leo rejected religious language used to bless violence, contrasting with rhetoric from Trump administration officials.

"He does not listen to the prayers of those who wage war, but rejects them," Leo said, quoting the prophet Isaiah, who said: "Even though you make many prayers, I will not listen: your hands are full of blood."

I get the arguments about elites and structures of power and money in politics and so on. But I suppose I'm conservative in a deep and unchangeable way, because I believe America's problem right now is a spiritual one. We don't believe we're all God's children. If we did, there would be no Trump.

I truly have a hard time adjusting to the fact that our government is led by people who actively and consistently look for the shittiest thing to do

The world could be such a nice place if we allowed it. It's all so goddamn unnecessary. There's no need for any of it. It's so beautiful here. It should be so cool to be alive

What I like is how the mom keeps saying “if you want this to be real” and then “Fine, I take it back!” Like the truth is a favor we do for other people, instead of something we owe to ourselves.

Reminder: it's not ok to execute guilty people, either

A reminder to the news media: “conflicting accounts” is what you say BEFORE the incontrovertible video evidence appears. After that, your job is to ask why one side is lying, not to repeat the lie and pretend no one knows the truth.

Abolish ICE. Destroy their weapons and melt down their equipment. Deny their agents, employees, and bosses all government employment for all time. Remove the agency entirely from the budget and give the money to public libraries and free health care.

Too much of my life right now is at the whim of capricious, vindictive, selfish, shitty people in the twilight years of their lives who seem determined to make themselves the main characters to the bitter end. Anyway, maybe tomorrow.

Naming a police officer is not doxxing. We aren’t supposed to have secret police in America.

look I know being an engaged citizen IS the work of democracy but it is also the work of elected officials not to create situations where everyone has to be mobilized all the time to prevent them from allowing some kind of Dickensian horror on a Sunday night while you're in between loads of laundry
