Every time I get food in my beard, I think of how many shirts I've saved from stains over the years with my beard.

A male strepsipteran parasite.
My current research student found her second male strepsipteran from a Malaise trap we ran in the fall. She's doubled my lifetime collection of them π€
Once again, with improved lyrics for the Nashville crowd last weekend.

What's your plan? I did from south of Sydney to north of Cairns collecting millipedes as a post doc.
Strepsiptera, male. From Tennessee, USA.
She has 4 older feline brothers and 2 older canine sisters...plus my kids and all...
As difficult as it may be to believe, the kitten that followed my son a few weeks back, now (proudly) occupies the rank of her royal majesty, queen of all cats, Hela, Destroyer of the Multiverse.
As someone that does teach the scientific method, I'd love someone to ask for him to give a brief overview of the method...just so everyone listening understands. I don't think that's a big ask.
Hoping for the best birthday present ever this weekend π
Sounds like you're raising one of my boys. Well done! π
A male member of order Strepsiptera.
Order Strepsiptera, male. I found this little guy in a malaise trap sample last year. First one I'd ever collected and found. It has two pairs of wings, but the front pair are highly modified/reduced to that little thing in front of the wing on the left side.
Billy Strings playing "End of the Rainbow" in Milwaukee, WI on 8/8/25
Another great show by Billy Strings in Milwaukee last night. It was a great way to round out a summer of music!
I caught a tracheal lining pop free while this cicada was molting. Pretty cool to see it in the video because I didn't notice it when it happened.

My dogs were very interested in something in the yard yesterday, which means there was another living creature somewhere. They found this pretty lady, crawling with wings still uninflated. I helped her onto our fence and she posed for some portraits before leaving.
Hope you had a wonderful birthday! I saw it on that other site, but didn't connect the neurons when I was here.
A 1923 model t ford.
A few weeks back, I had my dream car delivered from my parent's to where I live. This beauty was parked as is mid last century and was under a roof the whole time. It was last registered in 1952 by my late grandfather. The motor turns over, but it needs a lot of work!
My kid was in the local high school production, and if it's half as good as they did, you're in for a good show!
Nothing I hate more than an uninspiring aedeagus.
youtu.be/jaN35ziTW2I?... much sums up the way I've seen how war goes in my lifetime...and the title alone speaks volumes to what I've seen from too many politicians today.
Still have my T-shirt from the one I attended back in the mid aughts.
Described 30+ species of parasitic wasps, produced an updated phylogeny for them, trained as a diplopod systematist producing the first ordinal level phylogeny of familial relationships. I've impacted students for the past 17 years teaching; my 1st research student has been on shark week 5/6 times.
Can confirm.

Fall and Winter 24/25 tour posters for artist Billy Strings.
Concert poster for February 28/March 1 Billy Strings shows in Nashville, TN.
Finally got my posters from fall and winter framed up. I have a couple more I missed on the way; three for my kid and one for me.
Can you make room for the Crimson King as well, please?
It sure has felt pretty grim for a while now. I gave myself a day off to grab a frame for a concert poster that I hope my kid wants for his room (or my office if not). I'm enjoying a late start to the Billy Strings show, but it just means I can skip intermission. Feels good to feel good for once.
Slept in my Billy Strings T-shirt, and I'll just sit here and "Watch it Fall"
