Osprey no.4 has now joined no.3 and both are trying to hunt on the ever-diminishing tide, feels like an unprecedented Spring count for Ospreys in Lytchett Bay @narwhalsh.bsky.social @harbourbirds.bsky.social @mick666.bsky.social
QUICK UPDATE: more good news. Our male Osprey from our second nest '374' has arrived back safely & is now paired back with 1H1.
We just need 5H3 to return now & try to pair with a wandering/visiting female. Here's keeping everything crossed for a successful 2026 season

You’ve been busy
A good morning 😊
Wareham heronry looking a little depleted this year currently down 9 nests on last year, though 1 nest already fledged and some still building. The productivity of this heronry has increased steadily in the last 5 years, perhaps the wet winter has played a part.
One of their favourite spots to feed, just behind the nest platform
😡
Poole peregrines 3rd egg arrived approx 1910 Sunday 22nd March approx 61.5 hours after #2 egg. Last year this female laid 4 eggs and raised 4 young so we should see a 4th egg Weds approx 0800?
Unringed Osprey fishing today at Manton Bay #Rutland @ukoi.bsky.social
At last, first egg for Poole Peregrines confirmed 0340 16th March 2026.....in the new nest box....no chance of getting flooded out here 😊. Fingers crossed for a successful season.
First Osprey to return to Monitored Nest this year Blue25(10), Lands on the Manton Bay Nest.
Things came to a head at the Poole peregrines nest site 11th March. The juvenile male (HG) attacked the adult male (his father). They scrapped for a few minutes then the juvenile fled and hasn't been seen in the box since. Time for HG to make his own way.
Although Osprey Blue 33 didn’t return to Rutland it was worth the effort just to watch these two doing their “Weed Dance” @rspbengland.bsky.social @btobirds.bsky.social @birdguides.bsky.social @bbcspringwatch.bsky.social
Although we often talk and share a love of ospreys I’ve never known your “story”. Really interesting and explains your addiction to these beautiful birds 😊
Let’s hope it’s Blue 33 on his way back to Rutland
Checking up on local nest box cameras the other day I came across something I have not seen before in ~30 years of monitoring barn owl boxes....a tawny owl in a box with a pair of barn owls! Thankfully a couple of days later the barn owls were still present and the tawny owl had moved on.
