Stop Super Speeders Bill Hits a Roadblock—Assembly Speaker Carl Heastie "It's like one guy who doesn't like this stuff, and unfortunately that one guy is the most powerful guy in the State Assembly."

"We're not trying to take away your car, we're not trying to send you to prison, we're just trying to change your behavior so you don't kill people."

Making a few thousand brazenly dangerous drivers obey speed limits is common sense. Unless you're Assembly Speaker.

Assemblymember Laurie Davies, in supporting and asking to be a co-author on AB 1942 (the e-bike license plate bill), cited a crash in which an 81-year-old man was hit by a teen *on an electric motorcycle*.

This is literally a non sequitur!

It should not be possible to go 65 mph on a residential street

7 hours ago 277 44 3 3

Exactly.

Signs don't slow drivers down, physics does. If a street is designed like a gun barrel, people will drive like bullets. We need self-enforcing streets with physical friction to actually mandate safe behavior behind the wheel. No goodwill required.

(Also, it’s a street, not a road)

How come they keep spelling “open” wrong?

Does that street look closed to you? Only if you’re a car… and presumably that’s the real problem. #UrbanTruth

Everyday the Trump idiots are trying to kill us in new ways. This particular line should tell you something. Hint: "remove bike and bus lanes"

Feeling well-represented: My Councilmember @shahanafrombk.bsky.social (and @chiosse.bsky.social @sandynurse.bsky.social) make the case for Public Renewables in NYS. Seriously, relying on for-profit utilities for such a human essential makes zero sense. static1.squarespace.com/static/591df...

Maybe if they make parking rules so incomprehensible drivers will opt for transit out of frustration?

Day 19 of #30DaysOfBiking

I helped the kids clean out their bookshelves this weekend & today we rode around, dropping off about 75 books they don’t read anymore into Little Free Libraries across the neighborhood.

i would like to take a step back and ask whether we are prepared to bring this same energy to inflict unsparing justice on each and every responsible official, commentator, and collaborator.

don't stop at getting mad. take notes.

There are clear reasons in most cities why people, especially women, feel vulnerable when biking for everyday transportation.

Reasons that smart leaders and policymakers can address.

Step one: Prioritize people getting around the city, not our cars.

Gateshead flyover: Inside the UK's 'most complicated' demolition The demolition of the flyover is expected to take six months and cause some traffic disruption.

The demolition of the failed Gateshead flyover is going to be complicated.
It used to carry 40,000 vehicles a day, but they've been absorbed by other routes showing it wasn't really needed. We should consider closing the central motorway too

Yesterday in Hamburg, 800 people gathered to remember the 11-year-old boy who was killed by a truck driver.

That’s how it all began in the Netherlands in the 1970s.

Stop de kindermoord.

Are we ready, like the Dutch, to block roads in the name of child-friendly, safe mobility until Vision Zero?

A dozen or so cars parked on a brand new bike path, Bóthar Stiofáin, Galway.

Nearby, an event is being held to mark the unveiling of a plaque commemorating Steven Griffin, an Irish soldier who was killed in Lebanon (1980) while on duty with Unifil.

Utterly predictable — and you couldn't make it up.

Opinion: More solar - not gas - will bring down your electric bill I’m running again to be the state representative for the 108th District. As a candidate, one of my top goals is lowering energy bills.

Inject this into my veins 💉💉💉. A candidate for state rep talking about reducing permitting barriers for solar in the state. This is the future 👏

Great for the environment, great for the climate, and great for consumers!

WTF

The Illinois senate just unanimously passed a bill about high speed e-bikes & slipped in a provision that allows state vehicles to obstruct bike lanes w/o impunity.

Gov agencies are top bike lane obstructors as it is. This encourages it. It also sets a bad example for the rest of the community
