My mother always told (repeated from her mother) not to trust a man in co-respondent shoes. We believed the warning implicitly, but didn’t know what co-respondent shoes were.

The picture shows a pair of Egyptian sandals made of woven reed and palm leaves, the sole with bound edges and pointed toe. One sandal is completely preserved with ankle strap and toe strap.

Man, when you compare the bravery of every day Minnesotans to the overpaid cops it’s astounding
A photo of some trees reflected in a pond. There is an island to the right of the picture with a small white building on it. The dusk sky behind is largely clear.
One evening I shall be able to walk through Blackrock Park at dusk and not take a photo.
But not yet.
Rare sighting of a column chart taking a dip at Hove Beach.

Today the 12yo has declared it Bunny Harvestman Awareness Day!
Let your feelings about arachnids be tempered with the knowledge that some inexplicably and adorably have bunny ears.
When my twins were little, I found a beer with lunch made the afternoon much better. Not more than one, you need to stay vigilant!
No, but a single glass will make the journey much pleasanter. Just enough to take the edge off, not enough to give the enemy* an advantage.

I still sing a couple of the songs to myself.
I found it weird and a bit unsettling to work in the European institutions and have everything in English rather than French which would frankly make more sense at this point.
But I do love the way EU documents these days specify "use the correct spelling: Irish English not US English"
Currently our single remaining hen is protecting herself by mostly hanging out with the dog.

Grenell instructed me to “get rid of” the center’s permanent art collection. New art to adorn the building’s walls after its renovation, I was taken aback. If the donors of the works didn’t pay for their removal, he said, we could auction or give them away.

I’ve had the same editor since 1967. Many times he has said to me over the years or asked me, Why would you use a semicolon instead of a colon? And many times over the years I have said to him things like: I will never speak to you again. Forever. Goodbye. That is it. Thank you very much. And I leave. Then I read the piece and I think of his suggestions. I send him a telegram that says, OK, so you’re right. So what? Don’t ever mention this to me again. If you do, I will never speak to you again

Yum yum yum. Jealous, I am.
Wild violets among lots of green leafy things.
@athenepallas.bsky.social The violets are also stunning this year. Patches of blue on roadside banks everywhere.
we are getting a glimpse here, surely, of the Algorithm Encyclical. and the glimpse is good
If journalists had any integrity and courage, they would boycott the White House Correspondents Dinner. It should be as empty as a TPUSA event.
Would anyone like a ticket to Christy Moore in Vicar Street tonight? I can't go because I have broken my arm and am pretty much housebound. My husband isn't that into Christy. I would hate for this ticket to go to waste, so please reply if you are interested. I have also advertised it on Facebook.

Dr. Solomon Fuller - grandson of Virginians who bought their freedom & moved to Liberia - earned his MD from Boston University in 1897 & was invited by Alois Alzheimer to do research at the University of Munich in 1904. He was among the 1st neurologists to work on the disease now called Alzheimers.
And actually, will make a perfect present for my step-son-in-law!
That looks fabulous.
Found this in a charity shop the other day. Irish cookbook Loads of chipper favourites in it and other tasty stuff. signed by the authors too. Gonna try some this week but air fry instead of the recommended deep frying
The Spanish. Kenyans etc grow our food. The agri-business in Ireland is an export model leaving us reliant on imports. While we can technically 'feed' ourselves we cannot do so in a way that is nutritionally healthy.

It’s like the fact that it’s much more environmentally efficient to live in a city. Having moved from urban to rural, I’m very uncomfortably aware of this.
