For a taster of things to come in 2026 the group has a wide variety of papers coming. And here is a few preprints if you need a good read for the way home..π

We want to thank you all for seeing & engaging with our @emmabeansworth.bsky.social, @c-hill13.bsky.social & @eh-hayles.bsky.social who presented their latest work & with our @gemma-langridge.bsky.social who helped chair a #cool new session on transformative tools for biological complexity π
Before we all run off back to @quadraminstitute.bsky.social we wanted to thank @microbiologysociety.org for anorher wonderful conference
We have all had a great time at #microbio26 networking & hearing #cool science. Please watching for our news this year will be an awesome 1 for the whole group..
As @microbiologysociety.org #microbio26 wraps up, I can't believe this was my 3rd time presenting at this conference. Thanks to the society letting me present my latest work & for wonderful questions. This paper on impact genome rearrangement has on virulence & #AMR will be coming later this year π
Exactly that! And virulence phenotypes... the paper will be a biggie but hopefully it will be published by the end of the year π€
Day 3 of @microbiologysociety.org #microbio26 had so many highlights but my favourite was the Outreach & Engagement Prize lecture by @lindsaybroadbent.bsky.social
A moving & motivating talk showcasing the importance of being able to communicate science to everyone. Read more here microb.io/4bV2Nps
We always love catching up with the microbesNG team and hearing about their latest updates π find out more here microbesng.com
Someone is very happy with themselves to have won some prizes from @microbesng.bsky.social at @microbiologysociety.org #microbio26. Our @gemma-langridge.bsky.social is looking forward to playing the biology word game on her office white board when she gets back to @quadraminstitute.bsky.social
Also happy to discuss my latest preprint showing #Salmonella aren't equal in terms of infection risk!
Herr population genomics & global datasets find lineage-specific markers linked to infection - including conserved #phages - showing potential for genomics-informed risk prediction in food safetyπ€
So pleased that I was given the opportunity to present my work again to the #genetics & #genomics forum @microbiologysociety.org #microbio26.
If you missed your chance to ask me questions on genomic rearrangements & the impact these have on #AMR please feel free to find me or ping me a message π
Now we have our @c-hill13.bsky.social presenting her work on mobilome of #Salmonella Dublin, you can find her at poster 210.
Later this afternoon we have our @gemma-langridge.bsky.social co-chairing the transformative tools for biological complexity sessions π
Amazing 2nd day @microbiologysociety.org ##microbio26 with our @eh-hayles.bsky.social & @emmabeansworth.bsky.social presenting their work so wellπͺ
They will be here for the rest of the conference if you have any more burning questions or about their preprints

Later this afternoon we have our @gemma-langridge.bsky.social co-chairing the transformative tools for biological complexity sessions π
Also at 2:30 our @emmabeansworth.bsky.social is presenting our latest update on genomic rearrangements, & the dramatic impacts this type of variation has on pathogenetic traits like #antibiotic resistance & #virulence. She maybe tiny, but the red makes her easy to find if you wanna ask her qs afterπ
Its our favourite day at @microbiologysociety.org #microbio26 #genetics & #genomics. In the poster session at A039 we have our @eh-hayles.bsky.social presenting her hot off the preprint work on the dynamics of Shiga toxin subtype #stx2a in #STEC across England, 2016-2024.
Read here: tiny.cc/y0u1101
What a wonderful start to @microbiologysociety.org #microbio26 with an interactive session on celebrating & promoting actions advancing #EDI followed by @prideinmicro.bsky.social lecture on From visibility to belonging. Its been wonderful to see this network grow. Read more here: microb.io/4mnraQc
The second, Iβm at #microbio26 in Belfast presenting the next stages of the project, looking at the gene, genome and phage variation of #stx2a. Come see me at poster A039!
We're excited for @microbiologysociety.org #microbio26 to begin but also to share the fantastic news that our @eh-hayles.bsky.social's latest paper is now preprinted. If you wanna hear about temporal dynamics & acquisition of Shiga toxin subtype stx2a within #STEC in England go see her poster at A39

Now we are excited for @microbiologysociety.org #microbio26 to begin! Today we have the adoptees @carolinejarvis.bsky.social (34&35), @jcihorton.bsky.social (37) & our @eh-hayles.bsky.social (39) presenting their #genetics & #genomics forum presents. Cool science here we come π
We expect nothing less than last minute awesomeness from you Emma π...
Or else... π
Who is looking forward to the @microbiologysociety.org #microbio26 next week?? I'm very grateful to be presenting my 3rd talk at this conference. Looking forward to showing you our latest work on genomic rearrangements in the #genetics & #genomics forum Tues. But 1st I had better finish it #PImoves
Then you might see our @gemma-langridge.bsky.social co-chairing the transformative tools for biological complexity sessions Wed & Thur!
We are excited to hearing some wonderful & cool science & catching up with you all over the next few days.
Last time we were all in Belfast for @microbiologysociety.org #microbio26 things were a little bit different... We are pleased that @c-hill13.bsky.social is now officially 1 of us! She (B210) & @eh-hayles.bsky.social (A39) have posters, @emmabeansworth.bsky.social has a talk Tues in #genomics forumπ§¬
This is no April fools!!!
π¨ @langridgelab.bsky.social has a funded #PhD for UK candidates
Do you love #microbiomes, #bioinformatics & translational science?
Come & join us, & @andrewjpage.bsky.social at @originsciences.bsky.social & get stuck into a ton of #metagenomic dataπ§¬
Apply by 8 April
Really enjoyed working with @emmabeansworth.bsky.social and @gemma-langridge.bsky.social on this one! Am loving the inevitable phage-ification of the Langridge lab group #phages
Not all #Salmonella equal in terms of infection risk!
By combining population #genomics & global datasets, we identify lineage-specific markers linked to human infection - including a conserved prophage in S. Agonaπ¦
This highlights the potential for genomics-informed risk prediction in food safety
We would normally also write some sort of quib at our @emmabeansworth.bsky.social like "Is it too early to ask how your talk for @microbiologysociety.org #Microbio26 & subsequent paper is going? π"
But she deserves to ignore us... she nailed this & deserves a break surrounded by all the lego!
Excited to share our latest preprint!
Food surveillance detects lots of #Salmonella but only some cause disease.
Using large-scale #genomics, we show that risk:
- clusters at the lineage level, driven by mobile genetic elements
- markers can be IDed including a phage in Agona
- can be predicted
Our @nisbetalice.bsky.social and @gemma-langridge.bsky.social are in Cambodia π°π
Powering through the jetlag, they are sharing their research on typhoidal #salmonella π§¬π¦
