This is quite a story:

The Texas legislature rammed through a gerrymandering bill at the request of Trump.
Virginia actually voted in favor of redistricting to counterbalance what Texas and other Republican-controlled states have done.
Yet only one is considered a "power grab."
Oligarch-owned media in a nutshell.
This also sounds like they’re trying to stir something up. “And there’s nothing we can do about it” isn’t defeatism, it’s rhetorical—you, the listener, are supposed to fill in what you think you can do about it.
every conservative political complaint comes back to "those people shouldn't count because they disagree with me"
Absolutely.
"These people are stealing your tax money, robbing you of services you paid for to enrich themselves. I will stop that."
That's a pretty simple and effective message.
Indeed. Our podcast this week is on precisely the power of this message. In Hungary, the anti-corruption message hit Orban hard.
👇🎯 Today in “Juan Linz was right & presidentialism was a grave mistake.” In a proper normal functioning democracy, all it would take is a few members of parliament crossing party lines in a no confidence vote & this would already all be over.
An Ecuadorian fishing crew describe their ordeal as victims of Trump’s purported war on ‘narcoterrorists’
Quite frankly it's seditious to say otherwise. Legitimacy of elections is a deadly serious matter.
Also I rather suspect the academic achievement gap - boys now trail girls substantially in the aggregate - has a lot to do with these sorts of attitudes pushing male teachers out of primary school education.
It is bad and false to tell boys and men that they aren't and cannot be nurturers.
These absolute clowns genuinely believe that everything can be solved by being more cruel and brutal and manly and strong and that problems are caused primarily by not being those things. This applies to *every single thing.* interpretation of their actions must take this into account.
🧵 Today in "neither our media nor our political system is designed to deal with a far right authoritarian party"
They thought as long as they could break the grip of the “Deep State” (read: the institutional machinery of the state) they could just install a different ideological foundation on the country from the top down. But that was doomed to failure from the start.
It’s also that their model of why society is the way it is is built on conspiracy theories, because they refuse to believe the truth that their true beliefs are fringe and widely hated. So instead it must be George Soros’ fault or something.
A lot of it is because everything they do is synthetic. All they do is create illusions—illusions of popularity, illusions of success, illusions of competence. When they’re forced to meet the real world they crumble.
I'm not joking when I say mRNA technology is more important than "AI" and it's a tragedy we're throwing billions into one while our government is aggressively defunding the other.
I think it’s important to understand Kirk Week as a preview for Trump
The victors write the history books, ergo, if we aren't writing the history books we haven't won yet.
I think it's important to keep fighting the fight against his memory, because the moment the man is buried - before - the usual suspects will be whitewashing him and spinning a false narrative of him as a hero who was before his time or whatever.
One of the more emotionally affecting things of my transition was hearing of a cis woman saying it felt empowering to know that in a world like ours that so routinely hates women, there are people who actively choose to be one and find worth and value in that choice
this is what i wore today btw
Trump is clearly not fit to serve.
That’s why I am co-sponsoring a 25th Amendment bill with @raskin.house.gov.
Our country cannot afford having a madman in power.
"Pancreatic cancer mRNA vaccine shows lasting results in an early trial: Scientists caution that more research is needed, but nearly all of the patients who responded to the personalized vaccine are still alive six years later."
This is a story about how your phone makes you crazy when it starts to replace normal social relationships
literally every day my wife or I go outside with our daughter people go out of their way to be friendly, offer aid or a kind word, no matter where we've traveled. it's nice to remember that hostility as default mode of interaction is not destiny, much as it benefits some to pretend it is
some things about becoming a parent are radicalizing in ways I expected - e.g being reminded viscerally how screwed we'd all be if childcare and other care work disappeared. but other things are radicalizing in ways I didn't - like experiencing constant spontaneous solidarity in ways big and small
Okay I want to just pause for a minute and appreciate the *TWO* little girls hugging President Obama in this picture
Two light brown bunnies are eating grass while sitting outside.
Also the way the culture prioritizes rich people and making rich people more rich. So we got endless hype over NFTs, which never appealed to anyone who wasn’t looking to profit by exploiting people.
