“enhanced interrogation” instead of torture walked so “detention centers” instead of concentration camps could run.

Update on the Moda Center process: I was recently asked to join a small group of councilors to stay close to the talks as the admin enters negotiation. It was conveyed to me that a condition of being in this group would be a commitment to honor an NDA between the city and the team. I refused. 🧵
We are past that shallow analysis as a society now.
We don’t need girlbosses using pink drones against Middle Eastern children, we need to stop war.
We don’t need Latino billionaires, we need wealth redistribution so that no one needlessly suffers again.
A classic tenet of status quo politics is that we don’t undo systems of harm, we change the face of who is doing bc the harm and call it progress.
We change the messenger without changing the message.
1. In a landmark ruling, the Montana Supreme Court has declared that the constitution, one of the most progressive in the nation, entirely protects transgender people.
The ruling is even insulated from SCOTUS decisions, due to how state constitutions work.

The secret fear of the morally depraved is that virtue is actually common, and that they're the ones who are alone. In Minnesota, all of the ideological cornerstones of MAGA have been proved false at once. Minnesotans, not the armed thugs of ICE and the Border Patrol, are brave. Minnesotans have shown that their community is socially cohesive-because of its diversity and not in spite of it. Minnesotans have found and loved one another in a world atomized by social media, where empty men have tried to fill their lonely soul with lies about their own inherent superiority. Minnesotans have preserved everything worthwhile about "Western civilization," while armed brutes try to tear it down by force.
Really powerful, hopeful paragraph from the latest article in the Atlantic by @adamserwer.bsky.social
All pretty boys should act just like this
@counciloravalos.bsky.social has a deep, long-standing track record of showing up for Black communities in Portland. From grassroots organizing to her work in City Hall, her advocacy has consistently centered on racial justice and economic equity. Smith was out of line.
Anyway here’s a non exhaustive list of stuff I’ve done (more to be added since it was published like a month ago)
www.portland.gov/council/dist...
Overcrowding, bad (no) medical care, not enough food, filth — these are average and expected in this country’s jails and prisons everywhere.
ICE detention conditions aren’t below the norm — that’s the norm. That’s what 2 million ppl and their families experience every day.
Opinion Editorial Board America’s income tax is progressive The rich already pay more than their fair share
Unbelievable stuff from the Washington Post on behalf of Jeff Bezos today.
Thus, today's election is not really the end of an authoritarian regime. Rather, it is the first step in a much longer unwinding process.
It is massive and absolutely necessary first step — one that anyone who believes in democracy should celebrate. But it's more a beginning than an end.
I don’t even have words for this.
Mayor Wilson: fill in the potholes.
Our office has launched a budget survey as another tool to gauge your priorities as Council considers how to respond to the budget the Mayor will propose in April. There will be some tough choices ahead of us this year, so please take a moment to let us know what you think by 4/20
The famous Andor line is that "tyranny requires constant effort. It breaks, it leaks. Authority is brittle." Here is a perfect example of that through malicious compliance: Idaho forced the city of Boise to remove its Pride flags. So the city painted rainbows everywhere else.
Look, Democrats failed. They failed at doing what they said they were going to do.
Now establishment Democrats are confused as to why they’re getting rejected.
Because yall came together and pushed Biden in 2024 while denying a genocide.
People are DONE.
Disgusting.
Genuinely not sure how we’re supposed to go about our days normally when the President of the United States has threatened to destroy an entire population of people.
I hereby formally challenge @mayorkwilson.bsky.social to trial-by-combat (he has to carry a heavy e-bike over the Bob Stacey Overcrossing for everyday the elevators have been out of service, and we’re over two months and counting)
We choose to go to the moon, not because it is easy but because you've seen the other shit this country spends tax money on. At least going to the moon is cool.
i can't believe a representative of the Vatican openly pondering whether someone should be burnt at the stake in 2026 and my answer is, "Yes absolutely, do it slow."

The Atlantic Subscribe IDEAS Where Are All the Campus Protests? Two years ago, students occupied buildings and colonized the quad. Now the same places are strangely silent.
Honestly, fuck off.
It’s not strange. Grown Americans in positions of power & authority called the police on to campuses, and threatened the future work and livelihood of 20 year olds because they dared to stand against the mass bombing of women and children.
And they will never forget it.
Uncanny. The only way to tell them apart is that Patrick Bateman has killed fewer homeless people
Have my gripes with Novick but this is a top-shelf answer:
As horrifying as the Minnesota killing spree stuff was, you need to remember that: that is what they were willing to show you in public: imagine what is happening now behind closed doors and walls.
if you're travelling and you are a documented citizen (esp if you're white/white-passing), you need to speak up & interrupt any racial profiling you witness. We are absolutely defeated if we allow ICE agents to harass people in the broad light of crowded airports. Don't be a good deputy citizen.
Counterpoint: all politics is local. All resistance is local.
Just because you don’t want to take a side on issues of massive consequence to the people in your community, you can’t stop other from doing so by saying it’s not relevant to local politics.
