Oh, well I suppose our waste isn't travelling so far to be sent up into the sky. It all needs reducing really.

Passenger services are about to begin at three stations across South Birmingham, closed since 1941.

This is the result of a long campaign by residents of Moseley and Kings Heath, supported by Birmingham Friends of the Earth.

The design has had a lot of input from local communities and they are keen to be involved in caring for their stations.

Yesterday 3 new stations opened to passenger trains for the first time since 1941. This is a result of decades of community campaigning, which we have supported at various points. So glad for those residents who can use the new services.

How will the Act* Effect Birmingham Residents?
Introduces Producers Responsibility:
-Producers of packaging have to pay towards the management of items when they become waste
-Means an incentive to simplify packaging and ensure it's recyclable
-More than £1 billion a year will be passed to local authorities to spend on improving recycling
-Birmingham will get £15 million every year from 2025

That's a point. Recycling is better than incineration, which puts waste into the sky. The incinerator at Tyseley is a huge source of air pollution in the city. The Environment Act which brings in waste changes means producers have to pay more towards waste management, so hopefully that'll improve.

Birmingham is facing many waste-based issues:
Dependence on the Tyseley Incinerator

This greatly inhibits Birmingham's capacity to recycle

Resulting in high rubbish collection costs and recyclable materials going to landfills

How can we create change?

Our volunteers, including John Newson, have been calling for the closure of the Tyseley Incinerator

To ensure the closure of the incinerator a recycling strategy must be put in place

Improvements in recycling would mean the incinerator will no longer be fuelled, reducing harmful byproducts

On Saturday we joined the #Together march in London, forming part of the biggest mobilisation in recent history against the far right.

Our campaigners and local action groups united with a reported 500,000 others to say no to hate, division and climate denial and yes to unity, hope, and solidarity.

A timely reminder! This evening's campaign meeting was about Dave Our Soil, a campaign asking the Council to stop using pesticides.

You may have heard that cBeebies were filming in Digbeth Community Garden. Their project is airing on cBeebies channel and BBC iplayer starting this week.
It's for 3-6 year-olds, but adults may be interested in the aerial drone footage and the garden looks really lovely in the footage we've seen.

There's still time to apply to be a @birminghamfoe.bsky.social Board member. Applications are particularly welcome from young people. If you don't think you're qualified enough, take that as a sign to apply anyway - we want our Board to truly represent people who care about climate justice in Brum.
