Instead of asking chatgpt, why not ask a librarian? You'll get real answers and they won't tell you to kill yourself.

Artemis II Return
NASA's Orion spacecraft carrying Artemis II Commander Reid Wiseman, Pilot Victor Glover, and Mission Specialist Christina Koch from NASA, along with Mission Specialist Jeremy Hansen from the CSA (Canadian Space Agency), splashes down in the Pacific Ocean near San Diego, California, at 5:07 p.m. PDT, (8:07 p.m. EDT) on Friday, April 10, 2026. The Artemis II test flight launched on Wednesday, April 1, from NASA’s Kennedy Space Center in Florida to begin its 10-day journey around the Moon for scientific discovery, economic benefits, and to build on our foundation for the first crewed missions to Mars. Saw a reel making fun of people who were expressing skepticism of the #Artemis II images in Instagram comments and while it's true that a lot of folks are just spreading conspiracy theories, there are misconceptions that can just be addressed directly!

Can you image what it would be like to go from the first image to the second? To literally watch your home planet shrinking behind you until most of what you see is the emptiness of space? For every minute to further hammer in our insignificance against the vastness of the cosmos? (1/2)🧪🔭

If you don't want to get charged you have to log in and downgrade to a "standard" plan that's just the fuckin apps.

An image of the entire Earth, with Northern Africa and the North Pole visible at the lower left. It looks like daytime but it is actually illuminated by moonlight. There’s a bright arc along the lower right where the sun is coming through from behind. There’s a bright dot on the lower right (Venus) and a glow (zodiacal light). A few stars can be seen in the dark beyond the Earth.

The whole-Earth-at-night photo from the #Artemis II mission was brighter than many expected. That was mostly due to camera settings; here’s another pic taken just before with diff settings. Digital photography is always subjective—even before processing! (HT @swapnakrishna.com @jasonc0.bsky.social)

The backstory here is that the Squamish people of what is now Vancouver were illegally dispossessed of this land a century ago. They sued, got their land back, and are using their sovereignty to ignore local zoning rules and build 6,000 new homes over the objections of nearby wealthy NIMBYs.

2. "This idea is gaining traction. We're publishing an op-ed in favour, for balance."
3. "This idea is popular now. Why does the left refuse to consider it?"

A famous thread from the dead bird site, by @IAmRageSparkle:

1. I was at a shitty crustpunk bar once getting an after-work beer. One of those shitholes where the bartenders clearly hate you. So the bartender and I were ignoring one another when someone sits next to me and he immediately says, "no. get out."

2. And the dude next to me says, "hey i'm not doing anything, i'm a paying customer." and the bartender reaches under the counter for a bat or something and says, "out. now." and the dude leaves, kind of yelling. And he was dressed in a punk uniform, I noticed

3. Anyway, I asked what that was about and the bartender was like, "you didn't see his vest but it was all nazi shit. Iron crosses and stuff. You get to recognize them."
And i was like, ohok and he continues.

4. "you have to nip it in the bud immediately. These guys come in and it's always a nice, polite one.
And you serve them because you don't want to cause a scene. And then they become a regular and after awhile they bring a friend. And that dude is cool too.

5. And then THEY bring friends and the friends bring friends and they stop being cool and then you realize, oh shit, this is a Nazi bar now. And it's too late because they're entrenched and if you try to kick them out, they cause a PROBLEM. So you have to shut them down.

6. And i was like, 'oh damn.' and he said "yeah, you have to ignore their reasonable arguments because their end goal is to be terrible, awful people."
And then he went back to ignoring me. But I haven't forgotten that at all.

THIS. The vast majority of the insights I depend on as a writer (and digital artist) have arrived as a byproduct, usually serendipitously, of the “grunt work.” There is NO Quick Easy Trick into the mastery of craft. Anyone claiming otherwise is lying, and likely also trying to sell you something.

I know it’s competing with an illegal war and 10,000 other major scandals but I feel like people should be making a bigger deal out of the DefSec systematically trying to resegregate the military

Federal Reserve Board - Proposal Details The Federal Reserve Board of Governors in Washington DC.

The government is asking for public comments on whether banks should be able to deny you from buying legal goods at their own whim (i.e. how they're cracking down on art)

It's Trans Day of Visibility, but a shout out to the invisible trans people - the ones who haven't realised, the ones who haven't shared it, and, sadly, the ones for whom it's just too dangerous to be yourself in public.

I might not see you, but I know you're out there.

Some thoughts about writing stuff, in no particular order (this might be a long-ish thread):

1. When Old Man's War came out (2005), lots of people read it and assumed I was conservative, because of its subject matter, and sub-genre, me being a white dude from Ohio, and other various factors.

2 weeks ago 921 158 24 41

i think sometimes cis people truly have a hard time understanding that jk rowling is a living person actively using her wealth to fund the international assault on trans lives. she’s not some Complicated Author we can have a spirited debate about separating from the art with!!!!!

I feel like a contributing factor in why so many people get away with being awful is tied to this "good art=good person" idea and the "it was always bad" just reinforces that. Alas, shit heads can write good stories, doesn't mean they aren't a shit head! We all gotta grapple with what that means 🤷‍♀️
