Every light we switch off helps birds stay on track as they migrate north. Let’s make Hamilton and Burlington a little darker and a lot safer for the birds passing through this season. 🌌🕊️
✨ Turn off non-essential indoor and outdoor lights overnight
🌙 Close blinds or curtains after dusk
✨ Choose warm‑coloured, downward‑shielded outdoor lighting
✨ Encourage workplaces, schools, and neighbours to join in
The bird featured in this image is the Rusty Blackbird, one of the TOP 10 bird species‑at‑risk for building collisions in the GTA, according to Fatal Light Awareness Program Canada (FLAP). Reducing nighttime lighting truly helps vulnerable species like the Rusty Blackbird.
🌙✨ Spring migration is underway, and most birds fly while we sleep. From March to May, millions of songbirds navigate at night using the moon, stars, and darkness. Artificial light can disorient them, pulling birds off course and increasing the risk of deadly window collisions.
Rodenticides can harm birds of prey, other unintended wildlife, and pets. Please consider signing this official petition to the House of Commons calling for stronger restrictions on the sale of rodenticides in Canada. grownativehalton.ca/political-ac...
