Oh that’s so sad. Nearly Legal was one of the inspirations for my (short lived) legal blogging foray what seems like a lifetime ago!

@robinince.bsky.social in your talk last night, you mentioned so many books and fantastic quotes, I felt the need to make a note of some of them (although missed many). Rather cryptically, I've written:

and can find nothing to jog my memory of what those related to
Oh no! I haven’t started watching the new season yet and had been looking forward to it… should I be tentative?
I agree! The counterpoint that’s being put to me is why should that “trump” the feelings that others have when someone doesn’t behave within norms - why is their discomfort not as valid - isn’t that reaction just part of them? I’m struggling to express the difference effectively…
(Also the numbers may be smaller, but please realise the impact is great. I’m still contemplating aspects. And I’m sure you’re already acquainted, but if not, I highly recommend the poetry of @holliemcnish.bsky.social who also inspires me and brings joy to the world in a similar way to you)
If I’d looked at Bluesky at another time (or yesterday when it was down) I would have missed that you were on tour and in town. We all have so much information coming our way these days it can be hard to see the important stuff. If there’s ever anything your fans can do to help, let us know! /.
I’m sure that that is a contributor for some of your audience, but most I would think would support your stance. There are so many things that contribute, though - for one, I had a great (and self reflective) time last night, but only found out about it by chance seeing your skeet /1
and I still struggle to convince myself that that purpose is sometimes misattributed (if that’s the right word). And that’s often where the conflict with the external world lies. Interested to see where the paper goes and what insight I may get! /.
I’ve not read it all yet, but thank you for posting, and thank you @autisticdoctor.bsky.social for the work. This is something I’ve been thinking (and talking) a lot about recently for personal and professional reasons, and that I feel very conflicted about - shame as an emotion has a purpose /1
Congrats!!
I can only imagine how hard that must have been for you and you did so well. It was great to see such a measured response. So it felt only right to make sure you knew - people get so much negative feedback, it’s only fair to balance it! /2 of 2
I just went to see @robinince.bsky.social in conversation this evening, and he spoke about NOT holding back about telling people when they bring you value or joy, something I’ve been really embracing in recent years! /1 of 2
@neurofabulous.bsky.social I just listened to your recent podcast appearance and wanted to say well done and thank you. You put a sensible and reasoned position really well and gave me lots to think about
I’m sure an apple shortcut would probably do this… maybe?
🚨New preprint and our results are rather concerning..
We find the "boiling frog" equivalent of AI use. Using large-scale RCTs, we provide *casual* evidence that AI assistance reduces persistence and hurts independent performance.
And these effects emerge after just 10–15 minutes of AI use!

Definitely intrigued to read, now; but presumably you didn’t succeed in persuading yourself, so did there feel like there was a conflict there?
Really intrigued as to how those two pieces of information relate!
I’ve been doing the same although only just about to finish season 1. Can’t believe I hadn’t come across it before!
Not me, I’m not crying…
Thanks! It’s not on your website so got a bit confused…
We charge our car overnight using a 3 pin charger in a normal plug socket in our garage. No residents committee refusal - I just never got around to getting a proper charger fitted...
And he’s not said anything critical on social media…
Sorry, should have read the images before responding as this seems a lot less clear than I had been giving him “credit” for in the debate.
I thought what he was getting at was that the studies that he’s citing have been peer reviewed, rather than asserting that the book had? But it wasn’t at all clear…
This one in particular hit hard. If there is ever any way I (a stranger on the internet) can support, do let me know! Random offer: I do (work) coaching for (ND) lawyers - I know that’s not your area and I’m not suggesting you need coaching, but if ever you wanted a pro bono session, do let me know
I mean, they’ve never actually explained what the limits *are* so 🤷♀️
Hence the inertia - what to do? Many of them are brand new (over enthusiastic parent, under enthusiastic child) rather than tatty, but not necessarily great works.
I should maybe do that - I’ve got loads of kids books that my daughter has grown out of/never read, and there are 2 primary schools on my road… maybe they’ll exchange a couple of books for not blocking my driveway every morning and evening!!
My main issue is that I have too many books to reasonably store, and they aren’t necessarily “good” books, but I’m frozen with what to do with them!!
(Or rather, I should have said, where government *ought to* come in)
