🇪🇺🇮🇹 Big rift with Washington; Italy's Defence Minister Crosetto says Meloni wants to move forward with the European Defence Union and wrote a letter to counterparts in Europe. "Macron is right, to be free you have to be feared"

Don’t campaign on change while making Boris Johnson’s vision of Brexit your manifesto commitment for what sort of country this should be

Remember that 6.2 million people petitioned the May government to revoke Article 50.

And almost 17 million saw through the lies and propaganda and voted to Remain.

That was an awful lot of people to ignore.

The idea that the EU would want the UK back when Reform is leading in the polls... Imagine Nigel Farage wielding (veto) power at a European summit. After all those years we finally got rid of Orban ffs!

Lib Dem member here, also a very strong pro-EU campaigner. Despite Starmer being Labour (obvs) and despite those stupid, stupid red lines, I also quite like him.

BBC seems to want to curry favour with the people who hate it most, while alienating its most loyal supporters.

On the same day it announced it is cutting 2,000 jobs. 10% of the work force. Literal decimation.

I have a lot of sympathy with your comment but still think it’s a bit unfair: Ganesh does “get” that the EU is serious about integration, defence and growth - I read his column as a gentle mocking of those who have repeatedly asserted that the EU is about to collapse.

The Brexit delusion is dead – so now Keir Starmer doesn’t need to pretend any more | Rafael Behr To rebuild relations with Europe in a dangerous world, the prime minister needs to win big arguments, not hide behind outdated red lines, says Guardian columnist Rafael Behr

This is right, but I'd go further: winning the domestic argument on the free movement of people is what's needed to unlock anything further than the reset. That means Starmer has to repudiate many of his own arguments on migration.

New Hungarian Prime Minister Peter Magyar appeared as a guest on state television M1 for the first time and made shocking statements:
-We will suspend this channel's news service. This isn't about me; I'm not seeking revenge. Our people deserve journalism that reflects the truth.
-We will nationalize the assets given to businesspeople and foundations during the Orbán era.
-The Mathias Corvinus Collegium Foundation, close to Orbán, was transferred 10% of MOL (oil company) and Gedeon Richter (pharmaceutical company) for free. We will take back these shares.

-After 16 years of the Orbán era, 400,000 Hungarian children in this country are living in deep poverty.
-President Sulyok is no longer the president of this country in my eyes or in the eyes of the people.
-(In response to the host asking about his meeting with Zelensky as a counterpoint) I get your joke, and l even like it. But your references no longer carry any meaning.
-According to you, Germany has collapsed, there's no internet there, people aren't even having sex. The Hungarian people were laughing at you.
-It was said on this channel that even my young children won't talk to me, when in fact my children live with me.

-(When the host interrupted him)
No host in this studio ever dared to interrupt Hungary's most corrupt and most lying prime minister.
-(When asked about the legal basis for closing the news service) For someone on this channel to accuse me of breaking the law looks like a thief accusing the police.

What we wanted was for Keir Starmer to go on Kuenssberg the day after the election and do this

The Hungarian election is about Russian oligarchy and its support of the international far right. That’s why Vance is there. He is a node in that network.

It’s all just so very sad. Yet even this piece seems to me to “both sides” the issue. The Remain side was living in reality; the Leave side was and remains wrong. It’s not a case of both halves of the country having legitimate views.

Anne we met at the Hay festival, well I met you! You said you thought Slovakia was the key to evicting Hungary from or disciplining Hungary within the EU. Do you think Orban will lose, and claim victory, and will the Slovaks support him?

After pager attack on Hezbollah, Hungary offered help to Iran Revelations about a 2024 call offering assistance raise questions about Hungary’s ties to Iran as the Trump administration backs Prime Minister Viktor Orban for reelection.
