The Endangered Species Act’s rarely used “God Squad” is back and raising concerns. Member Scholar Rob Fischman of @iumaurerlaw.bsky.social calls the move to override protections for Gulf drilling “using a nuclear bomb to eradicate a weed.”

"James Goodwin, co-executive director of @progressivereform.bsky.social, said it was notable that the Supreme Court in the mercury case had just chastised EPA for not considering both costs and benefits side by side at the same time." www.eenews.net/articles/lea...
Just in time for some weekend reading, the essayist Mary Geddry (@magixarc.bsky.social) featured our research in a recent piece of hers.
EPA is proposing to deregulate the highly toxic air pollutant, Ethylene Oxide, at sterilizer facilities. Want to take action? Our April 28 workshop with @envirodgi.bsky.social will help you write a public comment on this dangerous proposal. Register to make your voice heard:
Today we're thinking of all the "experts" who, as recently as a month or two ago, said that data centers were here to stay, and that we should give up on fighting them and instead try to "make them sustainable."
Never, ever listen to anyone who tells you that what you want isn't possible.
Maryland's legislative session has ended, and @b-dunning.bsky.social was right in the thick of it: engaging with community coalitions, educating legislators, supporting the good bills, and fighting the bad.
Here's his account — and a look at what's next for energy and climate policy in the state.
aaaand here's another (jp morgan chase):
for all the headlines about how finance doesn't care about climate anymore (there are many) the job postings are saying the opposite--they've truly never cared this much before
PBS News Hour wanted to know: How much of Project 2025 has Trump enacted?
They turned to our research to find out.
Lots of fascinating reporting here by @elizlanders.bsky.social
One of the most pristine fresh water ecosystems in the country. Following party lines, Rs have voted to strip protections for the Boundary Waters.
Disgraceful.

In April, the Washington Post ran an op-ed trashing communities who wanted to hold oil companies accountable.
Not so fast, says @jamesgoodwin.bsky.social
What do Pam Bondi and Kristi Noem have in common? You can trace the beginning of their downfalls to disastrous performances at congressional hearings.
This week, it’s Russell Vought’s turn. Let’s hope good things come in threes.
🦑🌎This is pretty insane. The federal offices in charge of offshore oil safety (BSSE) and offshore oil permitting (BOEM) have potentially conflicting interests. That’s why their tasks were separated after the BP Oil Spill, one of the largest environment disasters in our history!
Communities need to have input on what gets built where they live.
Our Research Scientist @federicoholm.bsky.social has actually looked into what is happening on the ground, and it turns out NEPA's critics are way off. This piece of his is explains what's really causing delays, and what would actually help (hint: it's not Abundance!)
NEPA gets blamed (wrongly) for holding up development, but it's crucial protection for communities, including Tribal governments.
CPR's @justinpidot.bsky.social spoke to High Country News: The administration's approach seems to "drown people in an avalanche while providing them with no resources."
In case you don't appreciate why more of the people who want more climate action need to start speaking up more loudly about what they want, take a gander at this map of the counties in the USA that are restricting deployment of renewable energy.
More than 600 US counties have ordinances against solar energy and are missing out on the economic and environmental benefit that could bring. To find out if your county is one of them, check out @federicoholm.bsky.social 's ongoing project, Communities Left Behind.
"Under the new program, customers will be able to build clean energy projects within the state. They can opt to fund clean energy projects that don’t get chosen during the utility’s regular bid process, or develop their own."
We could do this everywhere if we removed restrictions on new solar.
Obscure tools can have striking real-world impacts. The Congressional Review Act (CRA) is one of them, allowing Congress to scrap agency actions by simple majority within a specific time frame. And Rs have been VERY creative on how to use it.

Dr. Lemir Teron standing in front of a chalkboard in a classroom with his arms crossed
Congratulations to Center for Progressive Reform member scholar Dr. Lemir Teron of Howard University for being appointed to Maryland's Commission on Environmental Justice and Sustainable Communities!
Trump won't answer to congress, but we're about to get the next best thing: Russell Vought, architect of Project 2025 and de facto head of DOGE.
As @jamesgoodwin.bsky.social explains: "This could be the most important congressional hearing of the year."
Widespread opposition to data centers is driving voter turnout and political engagement. As CPR's Hannah Wiseman tells WPR, "It's not just opposition to the infrastructure. There’s growing awareness of the large amounts of political and corporate power associated with these data centers."

A GENTLE REMINDER: we are trying to eliminate fossil fuels because using them kills us.
If fossil fuels were cheap (they're not) or reliable (they're SO NOT), it would still be urgent to get rid of them because their intended use destroys our life support systems.
Here’s a Q&A on my forthcoming book, already available digitally and out in bookstores this Earth Day eve April 21!
Senator Bernie Sanders chats to Hank Green about the dangers of AI and what Congress should do to slow data center construction to slow down AI development.
Worth watching!
Ideally, you'd love to question Trump under oath before Congress. Since that's not happening, Vought is the next best thing. Let's see what Democrats do the next 2 days.
We should be able to FOIA the AI prompt that produced that image
its less the complexity and more the type of knowledge... we don't have physics-based models running on supercomputers and interpreted by domain experts for basketball games
