Honestly, I can't remember the last time I saw a payphone, sadly, let alone one that would be connected and work? My kid does have my phone number memorized, but I'm not sure how common that is. I think I only have a couple numbers memorized myself these days.
I learned recently that it’s an insult in Germany to call someone “hobbyless” or to engage in “hobbyless behavior” and it’s become my favorite way to think of assholes who have nothing better to do than to make other people miserable. Get a hobby. Build a model train and calm down.
This is a really good point. Without access to phones, kids are cut off from safety.

How magical is adulthood? As a reward for starting a difficult task, I ordered a new pair of glasses.

Corporations are desperate for ways to use slop tech that only does one thing, data theft.
Hope tomorrow brings you the strength to keep fighting and at least a dozen reasons to do it with a smile on your face.
NEW: In the middle of the night, the House tried to pass a bill that would have given President Trump and Stephen Miller the power to spy on Americans without a warrant for years to come.
It failed due to pressure from the public — but they plan to vote again in just 2 weeks.

One thing I hate and do not understand about chronic illness is that it's just as fatiguing for me to take a shower as it is to fill out a grant application.
the baby (almost 2) has acquired a bottle with barbie on it and when she’s looking for it she runs around the house saying “my lady!!”

That was significant, she told The San Francisco Chronicle, because “the clinical trials are the only way you can get treatment.”' Long helped save so many lives.

Dear men sending me friend requests: No.
My motto as guest speaker, visiting writer, panelist, etc. has always been: less tech is best.
The more props you have, the more likely something will go wrong.
I think I'm just going to carry that motto with me going forward. In the age of AI psychosis, less tech is best.
The New York Times is now blocking The Wayback Machine from accessing its articles.
That means you'll no longer be able to view archived versions of NYT stories published in 2026 and beyond on archive.org.
(All those posts you see tracking changes to NYT headlines and ledes? They relied on WBM).
A few years ago I was told that my art career would be over if I didn't make NFTs ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
We need to keep lists of places that are ChatGPTing all help agents because I never want to buy anything from them again
Hey Canadians, this is a huge issue. This mine will pump out millions of gallons of sulphuric acid that will flow into Quetico Park, Rainy River, right up to Lake Winnipeg. It's 40km from the border. It could be Sudbury all over again for Canadian lakes. And our governments are doing nothing. read:
Has anyone, particularly those who are immunocompromised or chronically ill, been able to get a shingles vaccine under the age of 50?
I'd like to get one, but I'm worried about paying $$$ out of pocket (which I did for the MMR vaccine. Happy to do my part but affording it is hard!).
OpenAI: We’re burning money like the Joker. A miracle needs to happen for us to turn a profit
Microsoft: Please please use our AI systems, we’re teetering on the edge here
Anthropic: I wonder what’ll kill us first: lawsuits, regulations or model collapse

As a writer, I'm tired of settling for a pittance. I'm beyond exhausted at being told "this is the best you can get." I'm done with the world's richest people and companies stealing my stories and acting as if theft isn't theft when they do it. 2/
