"Pancreatic cancer mRNA vaccine shows lasting results in an early trial: Scientists caution that more research is needed, but nearly all of the patients who responded to the personalized vaccine are still alive six years later."

I made a visual sample size calculator to help use our intuitions about how our graphs typically look to estimate the effect size and the required sample size.
I'm looking for input to make it more useful. Or if you spot bugs.

On a call with NIH PO this morning - I knew NOSIs were no longer a thing, but wasn't aware they now have these "Highlighted Topics". Not clear how it exactly interfaces with funding and/or how you highlight alignment, but good to keep an eye on!

Congressional appropriators have largely pushed back on Trump's proposals for the NIH:
-Slight budget increase
-No changes to indirect cost payments
-Limits use of multiyear funding to FY25 levels (NOT FY24)

Giving the gift of negative data 🥰
Since I joined @lsajournal.org I have handled several stellar manuscripts that report null results. These papers do very well and reviewers almost always appreciate them!

Horrible idea. AI will regress all grants towards the mean since AI is trained to produce the average output.
Grants require expertise that ignores bad literature and rejects author assertions if false. no AI review I've seen has ever challenged the author's assertions as fundamentally flawed.
Y'all I am so tired.

We are supposed to believe that FDA paused and removed the J&J vaccine immediately after 6 cases of clotting, but they hid 10 kids dying from the mRNA vaccines until Prasad and Hoeg, who were always antivaxx, revealed the truth.
Checks out.
IMO I see this issue much more with “open science”. There is so much emphasis on sharing all of our data, but little attention is given to the rigor or quality of the methods used to obtain such data.
