Yes, that is exactly what happened for those of us that discovered the books before the series was completed. And even after the series was finished, it’s a great series to just keep rereading. There is always something you didn’t pick up on before I or foreshadowing you missed.
Full series only twice, but the earlier books I have read upwards of a dozen times. Currently on book 8 as I listen to @wheeltakespod.bsky.social

a small, wrinkly basset hound puppy with droopy eyes sits on a collection of fuzzy blankets. his brown ears are each the length of his body, one hanging on the right side of his head, the other delicately in his mouth as he chews on the corner of it. this is a game changer.
