Another Black-headed Gull from the Orkney Islands. Beautiful place - this gull specifically was flying around the Standing Stones of Stenness. I think it thought they were just as cool as we did! (Or it was just hoping we'd drop some food)

Black-headed Gulls were another species I really enjoyed - I'd love to see them when they have their full black heads someday!

Jackdaws are a very fun subject. Don't have anything like them at home in the US!

He should really look into being a professional model... I'd hire him

A European Shag (Gulosus aristotelis) flying by the ferry up on the way to the Orkney Islands!

Another Northern Fulmar from Scotland - they sure liked swooping around the ferry!

During our trip to Scotland, we took a ferry from the mainland up to the Orkney Islands. The ferry there was a beautiful ride - and we saw a lot of Northern Fulmars!

I have GOT to say that I severely miss wagtails now that I'm back in the states. Why in the bloody heck do we not have these charming little fellows!!

This goofy young gull kept making begging calls at me, hoping I had a snack for it!!

A European Herring Gull perched on the head of a stone statue of a woman looking downwards. The gull is facing to the right, toward a statue of a woman looking upwards.
Faith, Hope, Charity... and gulls?

I see Common Mergansers at home in the states all the time... but they were still lovely to see in Scotland!

Sounds like a wonderful setup for it :) It sounds like it should go pretty well then!
I'm sorry for your loss. If you're able to start off the new cat in a room separate from the other cats and slowly introduce them from there, that's usually the easiest introduction method. I have heard good things about Jackson Galaxy's video on cat introduction: www.youtube.com/watch?v=tsYT...
A dunnock that sat pretty for a photoshoot in Inverness! The stunning little fellow hopped around and foraged underneath picnic tables, probably hoping to find some discarded food.

Carrion Crow - not much different from the American Crows I'm used too, which meant they were absolutely lovely.

Good news on California Condors: The Peregrine Fund (TPF) reports that 17 young condors were successfully released in 2025, joining the Arizona-Utah flock. TPF has a management facility at the Vermilion Cliffs where the condors prepare for release and are carefully monitored after release.
A Common Wood-Pigeon, photographed in Inverness. They were certainly common, but they're so lovely and beautiful and they have so much character to them. Despite being a "basic" bird, I truly do miss them now that I'm back home!

Hello everyone! It's been a long time since I've posted - 2025 was a busy year for me. I moved (moving is a LOT of work y'all), and I took a trip to Scotland and Ireland!
These pictures are of a European Herring Gull, taking in Inverness, Scotland. #Birds #Photography #WildlifePhotography
It's always a treat when the vultures fly low enough for me to get a decent look at them!

We'd just turned around to go home when this big beauty flew right past us!

A break from all my MarmotPosting(TM). Saw this stunning Red-winged Blackbird collecting some food for her young! Fingers crossed that her kids grow up healthy and strong.

Y'all are probably getting tired of marmots by now... but who could resist these??

Some more marmot pictures - the mother of the group is very, very alert, but she isn't too worried about us humans being a threat!

This is different from my usual bird posting, but I got the pleasure of watching these absolutely adorable baby marmots play-fighting!

Rare that a bird comes so close to us that my camera has issues focusing on it!
Yellow-headed Blackbirds have one of my favorite scientific names ever - Xanthocephalus xanthocephalus.

I know male Wood Ducks are the super vibrant showstoppers, but I always find the females prettier, if I'm being honest.
