The Canton of Ticino is deploying a secure, in-house AI translation system powered by Apertus, Switzerland’s open-source LLM (EPFL, ETH Zürich, CSCS).

Local data, transparent training, strong multilingual performance. A step toward sovereign AI in public services.

From graphics and learning theory to AI in biomedicine, neuro-symbolic reasoning, and interactive decision-making, alongside sessions on information theory, systems performance, scalable software, and rack-scale computing, plus a great panel discussion to wrap it up.

We’re also delighted to welcome Kenneth Holstein from Carnegie Mellon University, USA, appointed as Tenure Track Assistant Professor in our School. His research explores human-AI complementarity, designing systems where artificial intelligence augments human expertise rather than replacing it.

The aim of his work is to identify, analyse and prevent large-scale software vulnerabilities. His contributions have a major impact on cybersecurity and help to define new methodological standards for research in this strategic area. 👨🏻‍🏫
