Present “in person” at the Senate Appropriations markup of LHHSE. There is bipartisan rejection of the destructive cuts to NIH. Committee is also proposing a $420 million increase. They are also rejecting forward funding of grants. Keep fighting!!! @altnih4science.bsky.social

I attended the Appropriations Committee hearing in-person and sat two rows behind the NIH DIrector. This man did not prepare this budget - Vought and OMB did…asked…but he would not admit it. In my 40 years of watching health policy and federal budgets…what a tragedy!!! GOD save America🙏🏾
@baldwin.senate.gov Says Congress will reject the proposed budget!!!! I love her🥰🥰
Bhattacharya says the budget development is a collaboration with Congress. In my opinion, that is his bypass around what OMB’s head and his team constructed. Will the Senate stand up to Vought? Again Senator Baldwin called out Vought, while the NIH Director paused. #nih
Senator Collins leads off with her dissappointment in the proposed 40% cuts to NIH. #nih

Attending Senate Appropriations Hearing with Dr. Jay Bhattacharya in person this morning. Need to see him & committee up close. #NIH. Senator Tammy Baldwin, Ranking member is not playing. A “Warrior Queen”. My Sheroe @baldwin.senate.gov
My observations from listening to the morning session. The term and concept of “health disparities” was freely used with a focus on project and publication reports.
It is a “learning” season.

A little wisdom. I am paying attention to everything- “eating the meat an spitting out the bones”. Also, my decades of experience have taught me that there is always opportunity in chaos and danger.
May be easier to search NIH Council of Councils April 21st meeting agenda.
Click on the video link and you should see the agenda.
No real answer. “We will focus on all people and populations”.
Yes. It is at videocast.nih.gov/watch=56725
Another important point from the Director and some Council members…we must build trust and understanding of the public for Science.
The Director is being well-received by the Council members. A highly diverse group of seasoned academic researchers.
I think there will be a videocast. In the link I provided, there are summaries and slides.
