Game Dev Diary (Day 3) A blog about programming and other tech stuff

Finished up map switching with my Action RPG game, Finns Quest! Mainly just got the plumbing working, but now it should be easy to add more maps. Next step, I might tackle adding some dialog boxes!

Ahh, it's time again for Advent of Code! Here's my writeup of day 1: joshbright.com/posts/advent...

Now, back to making a game, the plan today is having my Action RPG game Finns Quest updated to where I can move between different maps!

In any case, going to start this today, but the next goal is to have map loading working by tomorrow! Tonight, I'm off to go see the Spokane Chiefs play!

Godot World Manager A blog about programming and other tech stuff

Been a bit busy with the holidays, but ready to move forward on my Godot game. Next up is implementing maps and being able to move between them. I've built this before on some earlier prototypes, here's an overview of how I get this working: joshbright.com/posts/godot-...

Today's gamedev goals have been met! Currently working on building the game so that it can be downloaded. Here's my diary entry for today: joshbright.com/posts/game-d...

I'll most likely update that post when I get links for downloads.

Josh and Finn hanging out

Forgot to add, the tentative title for my game is Finns Quest. Finn is my Corgi, and I love him to death! Here we are a while back, being very serious for a double selfie!

Todays Goal:

- Create repo for the game
- Start Godot Project
- Get a player moving on the screen
- Build a tile map for a more interesting place for the player to move around on
- Write up about the interesting stuff and post on my blog
- Have Fun!

Yeah there haven't been many games that have captured that magic. I played on the Sonoma server. Another fun thing I remember is the people running the game had characters that would do quests for players, which sort of sounds a bit crazy nowadays.

For me at least, it brings a bit of nostalgia from the SNES days.

Can you add me to the list? Thanks!

I'm also a big fan of Godot, but I'd have to say that making interfaces might be my least favorite aspect of it, I seem to fight things way too much. I do need to spend some more time figuring out how to best work with it I think.

Game Dev Diary (Day 1) A blog about programming and other tech stuff

I've just added my first GameDev Diary post on my blog, I'm hoping by being a bit more social about this, it will keep me motivated in actually finishing a game! Not very interesting yet, but I hope to improve. As you might notice, I also need to blog more hah!
