Why are electricity bills tied to gas prices in the first place?
Even when renewables like wind & solar lead the way, volatile gas markets still drive what we pay 💸
Now, plans are in motion to break that link, protecting households from sudden price spikes and making energy costs more stable 🔒
Really welcome package of clean energy measures from Ed Miliband coming today. Should make a meaningful difference to energy bills relatively quickly.

I really love Newcastle and surrounds. I was there last Easter and it was lush. It was also unseasonably warm so we swam in the sea.
(Also had a memorable exchange with the kids on a bench at Beamish when Parliament was recalled, overseen by a somewhat bemused pensioner)

The government has rightly committed £10m extra to protect synagogues, and is leading inquiries into antisemitism in the NHS & educational settings.
We must support this work while being unequivocal in condemnation: antisemitism should have no place in our country.
As Chair of @commonswec.parliament.uk I am leading an inquiry into community cohesion. We have heard from the Community Security Trust and Antisemitism Policy Trust. They spoke powerfully about the difficulties facing, and resilience of, the British Jewish community.
We should be unequivocal: attempts to downplay or excuse these attacks by connecting British Jews to the actions of the Israeli government are antisemitic and unacceptable.
Recent attacks on the Jewish community in the UK are abhorrent. It is deeply concerning that British Jews are feeling fear in their own neighbourhoods, having to hide religious symbols and increase security at events and synagogues.

Electricity again grew more than 2x as fast as energy, which IEA says “confirms[s] the arrival of the Age of Electricity”
Rapid demand growth from EVs / data centres is still “relatively slim” vs demand growth overall, driven by industry, households & commercial buildings

Renewable sources of electricity “virtually matched” coal in 2025 – they’re not niche anymore

A reminder that rejoining the single market will require accepting free movement of people, and rejoining the EU will mean having to adopt the €.
So any discussion about Britain's future in Europe has to involve convincing voters why those things are beneficial to them and the UK as a whole.
What should have happened: the REIT paid no tax but the Tice companies holding shares in the REIT paid £98k tax on the dividends they received. What actually happened: none of the companies paid any tax.
Our new report: Richard Tice signed accounts wrongly claiming £98,000 of tax exemptions

As it's the weekend, let's take a moment to enjoy and celebrate what for the entire country is an unalloyed good-news story!

A Tiny Human (1.5?) races through the door of a bookshop. Running at full pelt.
Eyes on the prize.
Huffing and chuffing into the children's book section.

GB News headline: GP who asked Muslim woman to remove her veil 'because he was struggling to understand her' is struck off.
Was this GP struck off just because he asked a Muslim woman to remove her veil?
How likely does that sound? 🤷♀️
Did he actually ask her to remove her veil 'because he was struggling to understand her?'
Let's take a look at what really happened based on the tribunal reports...
