The scuttlebutt protocol is pretty cute though

I really like the web of trust idea, but it’s hard to pick appropriate trust anchors for common online platforms.

Whomever gets to mint identities gets a massive amount of power.

Like, there’s some ingredients of a cool idea in here. However, the packaging makes me feel uneasy about the whole thing.

It’s open hardware.
I guess the idea is that there could be a network of kiosk like units around the world.
(though so far I’ve only seen one, and theirs as the implementation of the concept)

Requiring a mobile number to participate in online communications inherently excludes people in a way that is negatively harming how we connect as people

Well, I’m not too keen on the idea of giving away biometrics, I feel like it’s the next best alternative to requiring things like proof of payment card information, proof of a mobile number, or some other token participation in capitalistic society.

I think there are some really good applications to ensuring that each human can only have one account or one identity.

In our current status quo, it’s very easy to farm the creation of sock puppet accounts, which are being used to manipulate public perception on a societal scale.

But their whole schtick is that they create sort of a hashed representation of your biometric data.

While you can’t change it, it’s not like the data they collect can be used to reconstruct the biometric information.

Why not?

It’s the first globally scalable attempt at defending against Sybil attacks.

I think “Proof of Humanity” is an awesome concept, but attaching it to some cryptocurrency grift sours me to the current packaging.

Cries in Lycos

That’s a good analogy.
I still kinda struggle to rewatch it.

I sure loved feeling “seen” back then, with EFF stickers and cool retro computing props sprinkled around the set.
