I honestly agree with you, it’d do major numbers and probably be really fun to write. there’s a star-crossed YA romance (no comedy, no sex) in the new canon, so it doesn’t feel completely off-brand for them?

I’ve since been really lucky to write for a ton of popular IPs, including Star Wars, so now my fantasy projects are mostly things based on my own ideas. Spending time in borrowed universes is very fun, but there’s really no place like home

I used to really stress over draft 1 until I realized I actually like working on draft 2+ WAY more. Finessing flow, jokes, character, dialogue, that’s the fun part. Draft 1 yips went away once that clicked for me

also pick a bland mid-tempo song that you neither love nor hate and loop it in the background while you try to work. The non-writer part of your brain now has something to chew on, without distracting you from actually working. I call this Krackering because I mostly use Uncle Kracker to do it

set a timer for 5 mins and write down every thought you have until it goes off. Full stream of consciousness, no edits. By the end of it you’ll either be in Writer Mode and ready to try, or you’ll have accidentally already started writing the thing because you were already thinking about it, right?
