Level 8 on #MaxwellsDemon has been called impossible. Here's one way to do it.

This is how the #Wavicle app works. All the wave effects emerge from applying this simple principle over and over again.

I started coding in about 1980 (Commodore Pet, Acorn Atom, ZX Spectrum) and started earning a living at software in 1997. Still know almost nothing.

Wavicle - Apps on Google Play Simulation of a ripple tank for investigating the physics of waves

Have you ever wondered why the microwaves don't escape through the holes in the metal grill in your microwave oven door, but the light waves do? Find out using #Wavicle app's "microwave oven door" pre-saved sim.

...The (part)icle side will be developed next, using code from my Maxwell's Demon app. Wav(e) + (part)icle = Wavicle.

Wavicle - Apps on Google Play Simulation of a ripple tank for investigating the physics of waves

The new #Wavicle app, developed using #DotNetMAUI, is finally available for Android phones! It simulates a ripple tank, allowing you to play around with dippers and barriers. That's the wav(e) side of things...

I just had a go. Fantastic, and easy to use. I notice there are occasional little glitches in the field lines (at least I think they're glitches). But very minor. Brilliant.

Fantastic #MauiDay in London today highlighting some of the great work being done using it to create innovative cross-platform apps. I was particularly impressed by the talk about #MotiMe. Great example of the way technology can be used to help with child physiotherapy.

To support my new #Wavicle app (physics education) designed using the fabulous #DotNetMAUI I'm creating a video to explain the whole wave/particle debate. Or some of it. Here's a little timeline I made to go in it.

"One line. An artwork that is made of a single line only."
Didn't Picasso do stuff like that sometimes?
This one is 1705992 pixels long. At 300 dpi that would be about 158 yards.

The simple rule: "Follow the letters in Winnie-the-Pooh".
With this being a somewhat different style and age to Shakespeare, will there be a noticeable difference? No.

My simple rule: "Follow the letters in Macbeth".
As you can see, with this letter-wheel Macbeth drifts left and down like Hamlet did. Probably pretty much what you were expecting.

Hi. I see I'm just a little too late to submit an idea for a talk, but if you still need anyone I'd be interested. I have developed 4 .NET cross platform apps (games and educational) and would be interested to talk about my experiences developing them. Thanks, Steve.

I'm building a library of presets for the new #Wavicle app. This one demonstrates the metal grill in the door of a microwave oven blocking microwaves from escaping (long) while allowing light waves through (short).

A simulation of waves, where the height of the 'ripple' is depicted by either light green or black, to represent the waves. Along the middle of the screen isa blue lens. The waves from the top come down in a plane wave shape - and then upon passing through the lens they make basically circular waves, though they have a particular focal point they are aimed at. Confusing and clear at the same time.

The Falstad Ripple tank is:
a) a classic
b) has a bunch of secret levels?

And by secret levels, I mean an absurdly long list of presets I've never fully explored. Like this biconvex lens. (A LENS in a ripple tank?!? Amazing!)

What's your favorite secret level? โš›๏ธ ๐ŸŽข

In a #DotNetMAUI app, why use the OS's built in keyboard when you can make your own? Fun to design, easy to draw onto an ICanvas and, once that little bit of effort is out of the way, infinitely configurable and unique. Don't follow the crowd. #ReinventTheWheel!

Maxwell's Demon - Apps on Google Play Guide the bouncing balls home to win points and complete each level.

Ha! Yes, it would be interesting to try to re-create the game from that blueprint on modern hardware. But no, I'm currently too busy being into cross-platform development for iOS and Android using .NET MAUI. Games and educational science stuff. eg:

I can't remember now, but I'm pretty sure I didn't finish it. I guess it was inspired by Jet Set Willy. I also remember being inspired by The Lords of Midnight game to spend ages designing maps of islands on large sheets of graph paper.

Great! I made some very similar drawings for the same reasons when I had a Speccy. Graph paper was the 1980's game designer's friend. In my case too hardly any have survived. But I do still have this plan for a "ladders and levels" style games I started writing but never quite finished.
