it’s genuinely devastating T^T me and zin were so excited to watch it tonight and pretty early on we looked at each other and he was like “ai?” and i went “yeah i thought so too” and it was done for after that

if youve seen the movie, you would know what im referring to. many of the shots have the same look as the ai anime content you can see online. and like i said later in the post, the studios they used have stated that they use ai. i didnt include images from the movie since i freshly watched it in vr

please do not spend your money to watch or support this movie in any way, its not worth it.

this makes me so nervous about the coming animated show since it looked really exciting for the world of avatar! im hoping that the creators stop huffing whatever fumes they were while making this movie and stop using ai to discredit the hard work of artists and animators.

say what you will about the whole situation with paramount and the removal from theatrical release. i honestly dont blame them one bit for thinking that this ai slop wont perform well.

honestly, i wouldnt be surprised if over time this movie got more hate than the original live action movie. at least that one was fun to hate, this one is just disappointing.

if this is what we have to look forward to for the rest of the avatar movies, count me out. ive loved the shows since i was kid, and i distinctly remember korra coming out then. i dont think ive ever been more disappointed by one of the avatar projects.

overall this movie felt more like a tech demo for ai than an actual movie. and for those thatre curious, in the credits, some of the listed studios have directly stated that they use or are looking to use ai to “OpTiMiZe ThE aNiMaTiOn PrOcEsS”.

its a major simplification of the story, but not an unfair one. the creators have been known to mishandle topics of occupation/war/colonization in the shows and comics, and clearly they havent learned much since.

relating to the aang storyline, the decision to make past airbenders basically cops?? like jedi but benders this time! so disappointing. i wouldve loved to learn about how the nations interacted prior to the show, but the “the victims of geno slide were once oppressors” is so bad.

and basically the only spirit we get is taika waititi playing himself as a spirit for two minutes before never seeing him again. great. the Ke Huy Quan cameo as an ancient avatar wasnt bad but it was probably some of his most generic work to date in recent years.

unfortunately the rest of team avatar are only given one liners, generic dialogue, and exposition. id be surprised if zuko had more than 10 lines in the entire movie. after the 30 minute mark the movie just kinda forgets about him. genuinely forgot he was there until the spirit world scene.

unfortunately, the main cast doesnt fall far behind, each member of team avatar is flatter than a piece of paper and have zero emotional depth. aang has the strongest story of course, but it is probably the weakest story ive ever seen that is related to the topics at hand.

the size of the cast is obscene, there are characters that have all of 2 speaking lines that are meant to be characters we go on emotional journeys with. the size villains in particular suffer from this.

the characters refuse to stop speaking for the entire duration of the film, to its detriment. i wish the jokes were at least a little funny to justify it, but every joke is a flanderization of the character and doesnt actually reflect how the characters should or would be feeling in the situations.

the villain is uninspired and imo doesnt blend well with the canon of the korra show, we get about 5 minutes of screen time before the big twist villain evil airbender! never been done before! definitely not in korra! his emotional impact on the other characters is negligible if at all.

despite every character repeating the plot and exposition in nearly every scene, the story was hard to follow from the intensely fast pacing that would leave no room at any point to breath or reflect on the ideas being expressed.

the voice acting sounded like they took the takes from the auditions an with zero direction or emotion. the lip syncing from the animation is atrocious despite english being the intended language for the animation.

i dont think a single shot in the movie is longer than 3 seconds, most shots are about 2 seconds long and it feels like youre watching shortform content in a movie length format. every visual is flashy and disorienting and rarely adds to the story in a meaningful way.

the dialogue suffers from the netflix style of explaining the plot 5 times for the viewer to understand whats happening on screen and what happened 3 seconds ago. its clunky and uninspired.
