Chattel slavery was ended in canada in 1834, although then there was "apprenticeship" for 4 more years of enslavement, and now there are Temporary Foreign Workers. Black refugees from the states got freedom from their former enslavers, but not from slavery culture in canada.
Love you HT 🖤🖤🖤

Today, COPE’s school trustee Suzie Mah is moving six motions to better support students, including students with disabilities, to restore cut school meal funding, and to reallocate funding from administrative staff to frontline staff that support children directly.

The lower life expectancy for Indigenous people isn't by accident, it's how the system was designed. Politicians who underfund healthcare, and hospitals with a culture of neglecting Indigenous patients are part of canada's genocide; perpetrators in the MMIWG2S crisis.

Carney is literally ONLY qualified/educated to manage an economy.
If PP had any wits about him, he could have gone after Carney's lack of public service experience, poor collaboration skills, sexism, lack of vision for anything beyond the economy, abandonment of the Canada Health Act, etc.
I agree, and @liberalca.bsky.social has been showing how little brains they have for years.

And ffs don't cry when you're getting free education about this from Black, Brown, and Indigenous women.
"Bohapsody Rhapsody" reminds me of working in a liquor store, when various fully grown adult customers asked for wines like cabinet so-vig-non, peanut no-ire, and rice-ling. Delightful!

“…describing Palestinians as prisoners softens and obscures the criminal reality by which Palestinians are abducted, detained, tortured, and held without legal or medical access.
These are not lawful detentions.
These are acts of systemic violence.”
Never believe that a millionaire or billionaire is going to rescue you. That's not how they become rich. Carney has more in common with orange monster than with average Canadians, and it shows in his policies and actions as PM.

Public service announcement!
Never go to a protests without covering your face in Canada
Surveillance tech is already being used. I've observed multiple drones cruising above protests.
They cannot be trusted.

My Mum is Black and my Dad is white, and our family is spread out over Canada meaning many flights to visit family while growing up. I don't recall Dad ever being "randomly" selected for extra screening. Mum was frequently "randomly" selected. Yes all border agents are racist.

Today is the first-ever World Public Transport Day. COPE is committed to fighting for free, fast and accessible public transit in Vancouver.
Sean Orr's proposal for a free bus pilot was shot down in council. But with a progressive majority, we know we can deliver on the city's public transit needs.

This is the cover of The Continent. Above that, in a thin strip, it says “African Journalism | 18 April 2026 | Issue 235”. Beneath the title is the headline: “South Africa’s populist pretender”. The central image is a caricature of a Gayton Mackenzie with exaggerated features. He has a very wide grin showing large, uneven teeth, a rounded face, and heavy lines around his eyes and cheeks. His expression is confident but slightly mocking. His hair is bright blond, styled in a sweeping, combed-over shape that resembles Donald Trump's signature hairstyle. He is wearing a dark blue suit jacket, a white shirt, and a bright red tie. On his jacket are several round badges. One is yellow with the letters “PA”. Another shows the South African flag. A third has a blue Star of David on a white background. Another badge reads “I ♥ Orban”. The illustration is by Gado.

Welcome to Issue 235 of The Continent
In South African politics, Gayton McKenzie is a larger-than-life character who leans into his criminal past and blends populism, and a striking disregard for the rule of law. Remind you of someone?

@liberalca.bsky.social Why did you vote no on @jennykwan.bsky.social's bill to close the arms embargo loophole that allows Canadian military equipment to be sold to the israeli army via the states?

Liberals are choosing corporate algorithms over Canadian families.
Yesterday, every party supported our motion to ban surveillance pricing—except Liberals. While they "review" the problem, corporations continue to squeeze family budgets.
Why won't the PM just say YES to a ban? 🛑 #CostOfLiving
The City of Vancouver has just announced they had a $530 million surplus last year.
It follows a $860 million surplus the year before, and years of $300+ surpluses.
It's the annual reminder that when local politicians say times are tough, they're usually being misleading to suit their agendas.
