The voters who are falsely flagged by Homeland Security will have to prove their citizenship to Republican-controlled elections boards at a hearing. How many people won’t or can’t show up? High court races have been decided by 401 and 734 in recent years.

North Carolina GOPers’ latest suppression scheme: Sending voter data to Trump administration North Carolina voters could be forced to prove their citizenship at the ballot box this November.

The NC GOP's search for noncitizen voters is just the latest hurdle they've placed between voters and the ballot box. They're sending our voter data to Homeland Security, whose database isn't very good at telling which voters are citizens. www.democracydocket.com/opinion/nort #ncpol

Leandro is Dead. Long Live Leandro? After landmark litigation collapsed this month, education advocates are mulling how to bring the state’s constitutional promise to reality.

After the long-running Leandro litigation ended earlier this month, Anne Blythe and I looked into what might come next in the fight to secure a "sound, basic education" for all NC children. www.theassemblync.com/news/educati... #ncpol

It's time for our next installment of "Democracy in the Balance!" Today, our focus is on our NC Supreme Court. Check out who is "in the line up." *Yes, it is indeed Phil Berger's son, Phil Berger Jr. on the court.* Can you say, "conflict of interest?"

Will Wisconsin Supreme Court Strengthen Recusal Rules?

Maybe there’s some explanation for this. But it’s exactly the kind of petty, partisan BS that I expect from Paul Newby.

Is the NC Supreme Court erasing its history? I just searched for the 2022 gerrymandering & voter ID rulings. They're not on the website. These were landmark rulings by the Democratic majority. Republicans overturned them in 2023 in an unprecedented power grab. #ncpol www.nccourts.gov/documents/ap...

Democrats planning to run in November’s midterm elections have been advised not to antagonise pro-AI campaign groups that have amassed more than $300mn to fight for the industry’s priorities.
The warnings by top party consultants, corroborated by people close to four different campaigns and party strategists speaking on the condition of anonymity, come despite internal polling for Democrats showing widespread public support for tougher AI rules.

Who's going to challenge auditor Dave Boliek in 2028? It's going to be SUCH a crucial election year in NC, and I want to see a civil rights advocate running elections in 2029.

This article lays out why the NC Election Board's plan is so stupid. The SAVE database sucks. They'll end up punishing eligible voters for registration errors. All of the noncitizen voters, who didn't know they were ineligible, were legal residents. carolinapublicpress.org/75322/making...

This is a big problem. Because Newby and his friends in the legislature have already weaponized judicial ethics to target Democrats, Justices Earls and Riggs. From my new book on Earls.

North Carolina Republicans Are Trying to Give One of the Country’s Most Partisan Judges a Frightening New Power Over the past several years, the state’s Republicans have attempted—with varying degrees of success—power grab after power grab.

Republicans want to radically change the Disciplinary Hearing Committee. They'd take away the state bar's role and give Republicans the power to pick 19 of the 26 members. Chief Justice Newby, who's corrupt, would choose the lawyer who argues the case for the bar. #ncga slate.com/news-and-pol...

The state Supreme Court on Tuesday heard arguments that could upend a case about state retiree health benefits that’s more than a decade old, potentially overturning yet another of its own rulings. ncnewsline.com/2026/04/14/n... By @lbonner.bsky.social #ncpol
