New podcast episode! I welcomed back
@aprildunford.bsky.social to talk about her updated "Obviously Awesome" and all about product positioning in a world of AI.

We go deep into the key findings of the report, what they mean for B2B product managers and product leaders, and what can be done to help turn dysfunctional B2B organisations into well-oiled product machines.
New podcast episode! @simplybastow.com was kind enough to take up guest host duties and interview me and @saeedwkhan.bsky.social about our recently-released research report, "The State of B2B Product Management".
No problem! Hopefully, it'll be helpful for some product people to kickstart the right kind of discussions 😄
Bah, I can't even culturally appropriate properly 😑
I'm too old to use cool people's phrases properly 😄
But yes, I don't think it's a B2B problem per se, it just manifests itself there. It's the problem with the concentration of power (e.g. 1 customer represents 10% of revenue) and the inability to say no to existentially relevant accounts
Thanks! Hopefully there are some nuggets in there that can help you out
I just looked it up on Urban Dictionary and I think I'm using it wrong 😑
But, in this context, so much of the standard PM advice seems optimised for B2C product managers, and we wanted to see what was different for B2B ones (sales teams, smaller number of users, buyers vs users etc)
Key takeaways:
🤔 Strategy frequently sidelined by operational reactivity
🤔 A big disconnect exists between Product Leaders + their teams
🤔 Product discovery remains under-prioritised
🤔 High AI adoption; opportunities remain
🤔 Positivity re: Product Management 👇

B2B product management can hit different, but how different?
@saeedwkhan.bsky.social and I were curious, and we wanted to find out, so we ran a survey towards the end of last year to find out. 425 people from 37 countries joined in and spent over 13 minutes giving thoughtful feedback 👇

The quality of the cold outreach they promise you (beast mode!) versus the quality of their cold outreach to you (cartoon dinosaur)
Nothing puts me off a lead-gen agency faster than watching them put so little care into how they generate leads for themselves.
This is the type of AI coding story I like. Interesting, detailed, no hype.

I tried out Claude Code and liked it, but those usage limits were crippling. I've found Codex a more than capable replacement! Admittedly only for hobby side projects, but the quality is generally high and the quota is generous
I love how I set up a direct debit for VAT so they can take the money when they want, and they always take the money out after the deadline and then charge me interest for being late 👏
Pluribus poster
Pluribus Season 1 - interesting plot, great cast, wonderful performance by Rhea Seehorn. Yes, it's a slow burn at times, but the atmosphere and the attitude carry it through. Watch it and be impressed!
What are the chances!?
Playing "recreational" poker really helped me understand the art of decision-making with incomplete evidence, making small investments to learn more and when to give up a losing hand/avoid sunk cost. It's really helpful! (Love the book "Thinking in Bets" by @annieduke.com as well)
🥳!
Aw, thanks! Good to know that people are listening 😅
I currently have 4 Codex-assisted projects on the go... I haven't built anything with my own hands properly for years but it's fun getting back into it
Hello! Yes, I know Toby from back in the day - thanks for the other recommendation. Seems like all the tech people stayed on Twitter 🤮 Hope the year is starting strong for you!
Who are the best voices in tech to follow here? Product management, design, engineering and founders - are they here? Who!?
