Once I was in a grocery store with my 1yo, and a man looked at my son, beamed at me, and said, “Truly this is the face of god” 🥹

People have freedom of speech in the US. But that doesn’t mean other people have to listen to them.

A waterfall is nestled between warm cream rock walls. Behind is is a black gap in the stone. Around its base is bright green moss where the water keeps the rock damp. Imagine the calming sound of the water running

You are looking through a gap in a dark stone - through the gap is water falling, with moss below and the rest of the indoor garden beyond. A woman with short brown hair is standing holding the handles of a wheelchair in which a grey haired woman sits and smiles. They are looking towards you but don’t see you through the waterfall.

I took my 93yo mother to the conservatory. One of the butterflies sat on her a while - after it flew off, a man nearby smiled and said “peace to you both”. And while we were admiring this waterfall, a woman on the other side snapped a picture of us and then asked me if she could send it to me.

Today I planted zinnia and cosmos seeds in an ugly part of the yard as an investment in unexpected beauty a month or so from now

Update: the manager came out today to fix everything and promised to replace any plants that did not survive. Feeling mollified. And appreciate that folks are doing their best in this world of ours.

I am unreasonably upset about this. But it’s so hard to get anything to grow here between the deer and the lousy soil, losing so many plants that were surviving is a real blow.

I guess my old back and I will just have to do all the gardening ourselves from now on. Tried to hire someone to do garden clean out and mulch last fall. They waited so long that winter arrived - then came yesterday unscheduled and buried or removed tons of little native perennials. 😢

Humanity did that. Science did that. Publicly-funded research did that. Excellent universities did that. Diversity did that. International cooperation did that.

Artemis II is a perfect example of what we can do at our best.

The Wikipedia entry made me laugh.

“Although various groups in Virginia have requested that the flag be returned, beginning as early as 1960, Minnesota has repeatedly declined to return it, with Governor Jesse Ventura (serving 1999–2003) asking "Why? I mean, we won."

NASA's Artemis II Live Mission Coverage (Official Broadcast) YouTube video by NASA

I highly recommend putting this NASA #Artemis II mission livestream on and just leaving it playing as you go about your weekend. Live views of the spacecraft, occasional visualizations of the current config, views of the control room, space-ground radio audio. www.youtube.com/live/m3kR2KK...
