Palantir put out the most cartoonishly evil statement possible. They’re so arrogant and self-confident they don’t seem to believe their fascistic plans can be opposed.

We must get rid of Palantir altogether.

Excalibur Junior from the sadly departed Herbie Brennan’s unhinged Grailquest gamebooks is one of my faves.

YOU CAN'T EVEN BE "LEFT BEHIND BY AI"! If it goes the way they say it's going to go, the cost and difficulty of adoption DECREASES over time. If it doesn't go the way they say it's going to go, then you don't want to adopt anyway. THERE IS NO COST TO WAITING.

I am still so curious why Ayling immediately quit the FSU though straight after they got him the seat. Was that the plan?

This intersects with one of my favourite rants, the devaluing of admin/clerical skills. So many organisations have slashed admin roles over the decades because it's largely women's work and therefore invisible and that's why all your documents look like shit now and paperwork takes a million years

Yeah that was my impression - the regulated period was covering when we expected people to actually want to spend money to ask for votes, but when you're already spending your entire cap and have money to burn, why not just spend it outside the period

Amdir, Estel, Peter Thiel | deadSimpleTech In dark times such as these, those of us who wish to see a better, more just world speak a lot of hope. The word in English, however, is badly overloaded: we mean a lot of different things when we say...

New article: this week I was a massive Tolkien nerd and so I decided to write about different flavours of hope:

Yeah I never even lived there but it was a highlight - many fond ‘well the flight is in three hours and I don’t want to sit in the airport so….’ lurks.

Yeah I was so heartened by the sheer number of little groups of people showing up for this - the internet is where we all live now, reminded us that it's a community of people too despite *all this*

finally got a reliable repro case for this utterly infuriating ios bluesky bug:
1. scroll down a feed some way
2. tap on an image
3. rotate the phone and back
4. tap on the close button
5. you're now back at the top of the feed

the astounding classic Elfquest is my fave example here.

Interesting that 'this fantasy was SF all along' is pretty common, but the alternative 'actually the robot is a demon' seems to be a lot less common...

i knew we'd rapidly moved through to the 'it's too late to do anything, adapt' stage of climate denial but i didn't realise there was a 'actually we'll just drown' stage after that

nobody in chch has been more vindicated than Bishop Victoria Matthews who said the cathedral could be rebuilt, theoretically, but once the cost reached $100m “you have to ask if that’s a moral response”.

has anyone ever been so vindicated as Victoria Matthews
