Colorado Age Attestation bill update: Participants submitted proposed changes including improved consumer privacy and exempting open source software.
Sen. Ball responded this morning that they'll now draft potential amendments.
We're making progress.
Source code would have no copyright protection if it is considered public domain
Public domain code does not have to be shared.
Specific source code that is written by an LLM with limited human involvement would still be public domain. There is no requirement to share public domain source code. If it is shared, no one can claim copyright of it and credibly apply any software license to that specific source code.
Exactly, LLMs can output already copyrighted code verbatim. That does not strip it of copyright, as a human created it originally.
I'm mostly saying any sections written by LLM may lose copyright and therefore the license would not apply to those sections. Public domain code can be lifted and used without attribution (MIT) or copyleft (GPL). For some projects this is a non-negligible and growing amount of code.
Indeed, if not for copyright then my concerns are quality related
I have emulated AmigaOS but have very limited technical knowledge of it.
Today, I met with Colorado Sen. Ball, co-author of CO OS Age Attestation Bill SB26-051.
Sen. Ball suggested excluding open source software from the bill. This appears to be a real possibility.
No illusions, it's an uphill battle, but we have an open door to advocate for the open source community.
Stop calling them datacenters in space and start calling them Space Slopera
I would welcome the slopetition 🤣
I saw someone claiming that this is short-sighted and that someone should fork it without the new policy, since it would develop at "5×" the current rate. Genuinely, if you think you can fork RedoxOS, and long term improve its development by a 5× for more than the attention span of a grifter, do it.
Redox OS has adopted a Certificate of Origin policy and a strict no-LLM policy: gitlab.redox-os.org/redox-os/red...
Here is one of the dumbest things about vibe coding that I don't see a lot of people talking about
Imagine you're an open source maintainer and someone opens up a pull request against your repository that they vibe coded. They may or may not tell you they vibe coded it; it doesn't really matter… 🧵
I sent this to LinkedIn because I like to imagine the rage it induces may be at least proportional to the rage I feel at reading LLM slop
IF I WANTED CLAUDE TO CHANGE MY CODE I WOULD ASK IT MYSELF, I DON'T NEED SOMEONE WHO KNOWS NOTHING ABOUT THE PROJECT TO ASK CLAUDE TO MAKE CHANGES THEY DON'T UNDERSTAND

There has never been a time in my life when I have been less enthused to be a programmer than now.
Parents are still responsible even with the laws. I had no problem getting alcohol if I wanted to before I had a valid over 21 ID.
I have no useful opinion on that. It is incredible how two of the most deadly drugs are the ones our society has decided to accept
These are my personal opinions about the operating system age bracket law passed in California (and coming to Colorado): www.reddit.com/r/pop_os/com...
Parents should parent their children, not websites, not operating systems, and not idiot politicians writing idiot age verification laws
