This lecture is the third event in the yearlong series, Racisms and Colonialisms in the Longue Durée. Laleh Khalili is Professor at the University of Exeter, at the Institute of Arab and Islamic Studies, and specializes in colonial and imperial infrastructures. She is the author of four monographs, including Time in the Shadows: Confinement in Counterinsurgency (Stanford UP 2013) and Sinews of War and Trade: Shipping and Capitalism in the Arabian Peninsula (Verso 2020). Her current book is Extractive Capitalism: How Commodities and Cronyism Drive the Global Economy (Verso 2025). All events throughout the academic year will be online.
